Last night I swerved to avoid a deer, went off the road and hit a fence. Should have took the bastage out.

Having compassion can be costly in the moment, but I believe will pay back immensely in another time. Without people like you, the world would suck.

It was instinct, avoid the obstacle. Several people told me after that if I had hit him head on that he most likely would have come through the windshield.

I don't like to unnecessarily kill things.

Similar damage on my 2019 Ranger pick-up was $8K, but that was 2 years ago...

Having hit one on a bike, I'd prefer that they be wiped off the face of the earth. :)

That sucks, I feel your pain. I hit a deer last summer only going about 30mph. Hopped out in front of me from a field that goes right to the road, there was basically no time to react. I'll never understand why they run towards the large, loud, moving thing that scared them.

I think our quote was just under 12k.

I hate them too. Last week I skidded to a stop to miss three of them.

I added a pic to my post.
damn! if i saw it without being told, i would have guessed 3k. but i guess your headlight damage alone brought the repair cost up a lot.

Your instinct is good. You don't want to hit a deer. They do a lot more damage than you might think.

I eat deer. 4 this last fall. They are large, destructive rats. When I lived up north I hit 4 in 5 years. Usually safest to not brake or swerve. They react to weird car movements and seem to move toward you when you brake or swerve. Very weird.

They have ruined so many farms in MI to the point that farmers must erect 8' fences to keep them out. Very expensive. Totally destroyed my brother's farm. The ruts they leave in the ground are worse than from a dirt bike and poop everywhere.

That said, the damage to your car is pretty extensive. Might be totaled. Good thing you are safe and uninjured.
