Took my car into Art Hill ford in NW indiana to have 4x new tires put on, when they did the balancing they said all my rims were bent and I needed 4× new rims, less than a year ago I had a bent rim, had them replace it with OEM stock 19×8.5 rim for a 2016 GT/CS and the other rims were fine. Never been in an accident or spun out or anything that would of caused 4 rims to be bent. Couple other people I talked to said it's highly unlikely. Is Ford trying to fuck me or ?

If you hit something to bend 4 rims you'd know it.
That's what I'm saying, I've never hit anything. All the ford tech said was when he put the wheels on their machine they shook a lot. I tried to get more clarification but the first tech left, so the lady inside called him, put him on speaker phone and he said what I wrote above about the wheels shaking when he put them on the balancer.

Plus, you'd be losing PSI and having to fill all 4 tires with air constantly.
I say call their bluff and tell the service writer to have the service tech show you where they are bent BEFORE doing anything to the wheels/tires.

Hello; A number of possible scenarios. Some on the shop. Some on you. The first thing as another has written is to take a look at the wheels. "Bent " can mean some different things. One is no obvious marks but does not run true. Another with the low-profile tires now days is the tires and/or rims can be "snakebit" in potholes. Especially if air pressure is low.

A scenario for a shop has to do with the low-profile tires also. It is my take they do not mount and dismount so easy as the older style. Would not be the first time an employee damaged a wheel on one of the tire changing machines.

Guess it could be someone trying to pad profits with the sale of new tires and new wheels.

A question. Why did you decide new tires were needed?

I decided to follow the thread to see how it plays out. Many years ago I had the front steering off my 1978 E-150 van so as to get the kingpins replaced. The new pin bushings have to be drilled to fit the new pins. The guy made the holes too large. Owner would not make it right. Tried to tell me the grease would take up the space. Had to get it done at a different shop. Some shops are honest. Some are not.

To have one rim become out-of-round, OK. To return to the same dealer and be told now all four have issues, it's one of two things:

- You're driving a lot worse than you think you are :giggle:

- The machine (could be ancient, broke or uncalibrated) or the person running it (lack of experience, lack of training), something is not quite right. Given the expense and uniqueness of the situation, I'd select another shop with good reviews and have them look at everything with a cold pair of eyes. Ask them to re-check everything Art Hill did

If they were bent you'd know it before you drove the car in for service. I agree with sk47 the shop bent the wheels mounting the tires. The guys that do tire mounting are not ASE mechanics. They are entry level at best.

The Tech probably needs to rebalance the rims or he’s not axing the weights in the correct locations.

Since it was at a Ford Dealer, did they do the so called “road force” balance?

I'd talk to the service manager for starters. I wouldn't just accept their opinion that all four of your wheels are bent. I'd want to take a couple wheels to an independent shop for their check. If the wheels are OK they should let you cancel the order no charge.

Sounds like the shop damaged your wheels during tire mounting and is trying to cover their ass by claiming they were already bent.

The front right one is slightly losing air but the rest are completely fine. No they didn't show me anything. When I got the car back the tires were already on it.

Did they show you your bent wheels? If they are bent bad enough that you need new ones, that's a pretty obvious visual check.
They showed me nothing but put the 4x new tires on i brought in to have installed and then the lady at the service desk walked back and told me all my rims were bent then handed me a piece of paper with my rim size 19×8.5 with the OEM # and price of 614$ a rim and asked if I would be ordering them through ford, I said no. That's when I texted a mechanic buddy of mine and he said its bs and to get more clarification. She then called the tech on the phone and he said oh ya and I even double checked it. But never visibly showed me. Which if all 4 were really bent why wouldn't they come get me and show me.
