In the US when an insurance company totals out a car, you have the right to buy it back at 20% of their valuation
Depends on the state actually. Some states don’t allow it or has certain rules around it. In IL, you are allowed to buy your car back if it’s totaled due to hail damage and the car is drivable or if the car is 9 model years old or older. Directly from the state website for anyone in IL

Welp I tried my best to get it repaired but no luck, so it's gone. Getting it towed to me so I can take my parts off. Found a replacement car already, 2016 Manual just like what I had, same colour but no stripes or spoiler. Will probably add a GT350 or GT350R spoiler to it or something.

Just really a massive shame about the headers, they cost me $2.4k for parts and shipping + $1k to install, and I don't think there's any way to get them off the car economically. No chance I can do it in my driveway, so would have to get it towed to somewhere that could take them off and happens to have stock headers + cats to replace with. I really liked them, but don't think I can justify spending another $3.4k to put them on the new car. I'll be basically breaking even after getting everything replaced, so I'll just do everything the same minus the headers

No way to get the headers of on the junk yard?
They normaly have the tools and a lift.
Give them a big tip and go for it.
Wing can be saved also.

Maybe you can keep track of the car and salvage the headers when it is going to be parted out?

Why would you have to replace them with stock headers and cats? If they are totaling the car, does it matter if the car is not drivable and missing some aftermarket parts?

Was in a crash going maybe 30km/h, rear ended someone, then someone rear ended me. Thought it was no big deal and repairable, honestly thought it was just cosmetic damage at first. Now my insurance is telling me that want to write the car off because there's "front rail" damage, can anyone smarter than me tell me if the damage really is that bad? Added some photos

Am I just being stubborn in thinking there's no way this is a write-off, and should be repairable? My payout is only $45k (AUD), and I bought it for $44k, but I've put like $8k of mods into it so would honestly rather it just be repaired if possible. Insurance said the quote to repair was $50k, hence why they want to write it off

I have seen cars with much less damage than yours written off. From what I can see both front and rear rails are damaged, there is so much work involved in replacing these that is why it doesn't make economic sense to the insurance company. If the car is in possession of the beaters, you may have issues in being able to get your mods off the car. As someone has said you may have to buy the wreck after your payout. Also are the mods listed with your insurer?
Good luck in dealing with your insurer.

It's crazy alright. It was dark and they just jump into the lights, I didn't even get time to think about hitting the brakes. He was instantly killed, it's horrible if there still kicking and you gotta put them out of there misery somehow.
I'm in the California high desert and there are wild donkeys(burros) around were I work. I the last 3 months there had been at least 6 accidents with them. The crazy part is if they sit out over night the coyotes eat about half of the before the body is picked up by caltrans.

Well I also have no way to get them off on my own tbh, paid someone to put them on and no way I can take them off in my driveway. Would have to get it towed somewhere on my dime, pay them to take them off, and pay to get it towed back.

Really liked them but don't know if I can justify another $3.3k on them for the new car. Hoping the intake manifold, CAI and E85 tune will satisfy my need for speed enough, did feel like the headers made a big difference though. Our stock headers in Australia are much shittier than the stock headers you Americans get. I'm basically going to break even after this is all over with. Bought the original car for $44.5k, getting paid out $44k after excess/premiums get taken out from the $45k. New mustang I'm getting is $41k (got lucky I think here, same year/model just with 80,000 kms vs my car having 60,000 at time of sale (68,000 at time of crash)), plus taxes to register it = $1,500, getting it here (it's interstate) = $500, then new tune after I put my mods back on = $600, then bought some other minor things for the new car and I end up at pretty much $44k.

Luckily my insurer is working with me, so I've gotten everything I need (minus my lovely headers) off the car and am waiting for them to come and pick it up again.

Usually (at least here in the US),if it is a deer, moose, cow, horse, bison, long horn, (insert whatever else lurks in the 50 Staes and comes onto the highways) a State Trooper (or if it’s a local Police Officer) has to get authorization to discharge their firearm in the head of the injured XYZ animal. That is considered the “humane” method.
Or just take out your carry pistol and shoot it...😉

I had to look up where Helendale was, just a bit north of Adelanto I see. I lived in Palmdale in the 80's when it was boom town. Never saw any burros, but we had plenty of relocated asses from the San Fernando Valley (of which I was one). What does one do in Helendale if you don't mind me asking?

Just live haha. I actually work up at Fort Irwin, it's about 40 miles north of Barstow. The burros are actually in and around the base. I live a little farther away from work because Barstow isn't the greatest haha.
