A couple weeks ago I came across a nice deal on a CPO Mustang GT convertible that only had 2700 miles on it. The owner only had it 3 months.

The dealer told me the CPO warranty ran concurrent with the current 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty, so the only real benefit was the extended powertrain warranty.

I downloaded and installed the Ford App, and its showing me something completely different. It is showing the warranty STARTING after the factory warranty ends, with an extra 12,000 miles, and an extra year from the original purchase date.... Which is correct?

The question you should be asking is why did the previous owner dump it after 3 months? Did he lose his job or is the car a lemon? I would dig into the history of the car and see if you can contact the previous owner and ask why he dumped it. If the car turns out to be OK, then worry about the CPO warranty. It sounds like the dealer is trying to pull a fast one and get you to pay for another extended warranty even tho the car already has one. The ford extended warranty does not start until the original 3/36 warranty runs out, which would be exactly 3 years after it was first sold and titled or when the car reaches 36,000 miles above what test drive miles it had, whichever comes first.

As I understand it, the CPO duration runs concurrent to the 3/36 (actually the 5/60 powertrain to be more correct). Also, the CPO warranty is 7/100, so you get 2/40 powertrain additional coverage after the 5/60 ends (i.e. 7/100 total).

EDIT: The CPO warranty also has a 1/12 "bumper-to-bumper", I'm not sure if that's additional or would be null if you bought the car with more than one year of the 3/36 left...

It is always from the first date the car was sold that the 7/100,000 starts. Ask the dealer they should be able to tell you, or look at a carfax. The 12/12 is concurrent unless you happen to purchase at the 2 1/2 year mark then you may get an extra 6 months.

Why is this question hard to answer? 3 replies and 1 says CPO starts at the end of the bumper to bumper, one not sure, one says it runs concurrent.

The dealer told me it runs concurrent, but on the app, I see the opposite info below. The car was first sold/titled new on 10/24/2019, and traded in on 2/3/2020, I bought it on 2/27/2020. Its showing the CPO warranty expiring 4 years after first title (with the extra 12,000 miles), and powertrain 7 years after title. Is the info below wrong?

I purchased my17 CPO View attachment 448242 on 12/5/19 it had 38072 miles. Its orginal start date was 8/8/17. Out of b2b on miles. The screenshot is from Ford pass app.
I did buy additional ESP Premium Care from Ziggler not the selling dealer. I think depending on what the time and mileage is causes some confusion. The CPO for b2b starts from your purchase date with 12k miles. The pwrtrn portion is from orginal start date or the expiration mileage whichever comes first. Having a low mileage short start date, main advantage would be extension of pwrtrn coverage. Kinda simple but maybe not.

OP, you are correct that that 12/12 warranty starts at the conclusion of what is left on the original 3/36. The powertrain adds 2/40 to the original that started at the original purchase date. The dates you see in Fordpass are correct. If you still have doubts call Ford (not your dealer) to confirm.

@17Magnetic5.0 thank you for the reply. Yours is showing more like mine, 4 years/48000 miles. So, hypothetically, if you took your car in on Feb 1, 2021 you would be out of bumper to bumper warranty, but would still have CPO warranty, right?

@Stone pony If I am reading this right, your warranty is showing different than ours ?

Is the possible that when you buy a CPO car the factory warranty/bumper to bumper is gone and replaced by the CPO $100 deductible warranty for the duration of the warranty time period? That would at least make sense to me

Sorry if I am making this way more complicated than it is, I just want to know what I have, and don't want any surprises if I ever need to use this warranty.

I actually was thinking after I made that post that wether or not the b2b is still in effect might make a difference, mine was out. But by any means, whatever shows on your app for your car is what Ford has regardless of what a dealer may say.

Yup powertrain runs from original purchase date the power care starts after the bumper to bumper is up. I noticed that you don’t have it but the other premiumcare that can be purchased through ford also runs from original purchase date. Personally I would recommend looking into that one if you don’t have it already it’s fairly cheap and covers you bumper to bumper for a long time, just one bad nav system or an AC compressor would pay for it.

I’m not sure if it’s actually purchase date I think it might be manufacture date.
