I just feel like sports cars and manual transmissions go together like peanut butter and jelly. I wouldn't hate having an auto, but I might miss rowing the gears during "spirited" driving.

^ This !
To me, beating a manual with an auto shouldnt give the driver any pride since the gearbox does all the work (I'm talking about drag racing of course...)
just my 0.02 of course

I watched a lot of videos where at mustang GT auto vs manual and generally what I see is the manual start pulling ahead but drops back during the shift. I think a good speed shift would make the difference.

I have the PP w/ 3.73. I did 1/4 mile for first time this past weekend and couldn't hook up one time... huge issues spinning in 1st and 2nd. I have eibach sportlines which seem to limit ass end squat in hard acceleration which may be causing issues putting power down. Also, huge problem was the wheel hop. This week I purchased the BMR cradle lock out kit to kick the wheel hop's a**. I intend to get a couple other goodies from BMR here soon but from what I am reading and seeing in the demo videos this lock out kit will cure 95% of my problems......crossing fingers!

What RPM did you launch at? Did you use Launch Control? Did you turn off all the nannies? Please let us know how well the BMR cradle lock out kit performs.

I had a 2000 GT stick and it was a fun car to drive and shift.
It sucked in traffic!
My new automatic is exactly what I wanted, I can pass several cars in a row very quickly!
I was on a coastal highway where some prius was backing up traffic and the first straight away, I got around the prius and 3 others quickly, I was at 125 when I got past the last car and it was brake time.
I love this car!

I would miss rowing the gears every time I drove the car. I just enjoy the engagement... it's table stakes for me. No stick, no car.

Base GTs are not only less money but lots lighter...
Yep, I think that you wanna pick the right car for the right job. If I was going to the drag strip, I'd want a GT with a bunch of aftermarket parts. But if I was going to the track, I'd want the Performance Package.

Either way, the pony is not a small, light car.

Ill be ordering a gt base m6 soon. I dont want all the pp stuff anyway. Itll all be gotten rid of for drag racing equipment. The pp is not best for drag racing. Besides those pp wheels are stupid heavy and come with junk tires anyway. Put that money towards things that will actually help what you prefer.

I used LC and also didn't use LC... tried a lot of different combinations to get grip. LC lowest setting is 3000 RPM and spun real bad at that. Without LC I attempted launch control at different RPM's and I still spun. From history of this track it has had bad track prep so that could have played a role. Also tried warming up the tires with a quick burn out and no dice. I'll let you know on the lock out kit. Have seen other people on here review it and said it worked wonders for them so I have high hopes. regardless I am happy I went with the PP.

I also see where the A6-equipped Mustangs run very well at the track too. Back in the day, the AOD was total garbage and anyone who cared about performance stayed away from it. I know that subsequent autos are much better and run as well as if not better than the manuals. Does anyone know how a manual trans and an A6, both stock, perform on a dyno? Does the A6 eat more HP than the M6?
For strictly drag racing purposes the auto is the way to go. It dyno's lower but it's faster, more consistent, and can handle a lot more power and abuse than the MT82. I have 5 friends, all with '14 GT's, all with autos, that drag race all the time. They wondered why I went with the PP instead of an auto. Simply put, I drag race maybe 4-5 times a year, but I'm on the street constantly. It's a lot more fun for me to drive a manual in a car like this and since 99% of my driving wouldn't be on a drag strip it made sense to get the PP.

You just need to figure out what's more important to you.

That addresses one issue. It's a LOT cheaper to check the box for the auto option though and the auto will still be faster and more consistent.

More consistent for noobs. Not veterans for such as myself. :-) some of us are capable of being of being no more then .15 at the most off. With enough practice its not such a big deal for the driven. With over 10k passes at the strip, i find autos impressive but boring. i prefer my skillset. While it checks off that box for you, it unchecks the fun box for most. My idea of fun is 8-9 second cars with manuals. Your idea of fun to me is boring.
