I recently purchased a hellion sleeper kit and was toying with a self install on my 2020 pp1 car. Man am I glad I didn’t! The shop that is installing is a full fab facility with a lot of background in mustang builds although this is their first hellion install. What immediately became apparent was the need for more room underneath. They are cutting the boost tubes and re welding to bring them off the ground as there is only 2” of ground clearance. And while true it’s not going to hit anything given proximity to the front wheels all involved feel it is worth doing.
The other concern is the air filter location. The k member is obstructing access to the filter. I live in a dusty desert called yuma az. Cleaning air filters is done here on an accelerated schedule. But getting to them requires removing the turbos. The shop owner suggested a tubular k memberDoes anybody have any firsthand experience running bmr street k member with a hellion sleeper kit? Does it create more space for maintenance and possible air filter relocation?
Thanks

Thanks. I’d heard that. Right now they’re out of stock with no availability date. And they cost 2x as much. Was hoping the bmr would be as good. Not sure if either will allow me to run the air filters higher and forward? Had a 14 Camaro ss with an agp sleeper kit. Air filters between the frame rails and engine block. Flash flood ended that cars life

I have the sleeper kit. The instructions say you do not need to pull the turbos off to get the air filters on and off. I was being lazy and did not use the 45 degree elbows they give you, my air filter goes directly onto the turbos. Drivers side is easy, pass side you have to squish the shit out of the filter to get it on.

Ground clearance is tight. I have about 4 inches. It will tickle our in ground lifts at work when I bring it inside to work on it.

Air filters can be removed and installed without removing turbos. Kind of a pain but gaining access through the wheel well cover helps tremendously. I ditched the 45 elbow and extension and also put the filters directly on the turbos. Passenger side gets squished a little bit on the trans lines. You could reroute the trans lines much cheaper than a K member to make it clear even more but it’s really not necessary imo unless you were planning on the k member anyways. The boost tubes have scraped a little bit over the years. Nothing major but they do have evidence of some scraping on them. Have about 8k miles on the kit.

Thanks for the input guys. I’m riding about 2” off the ground with the Steeda progressive springs. The shop I’m using for install is going to cut the boost tubes to create more ground clearance. Was really hoping somebody on the forum had the bmr/sleeper setup. I think I will run it for now w/stock k member and then make the switch once I recover from the economic impact of the kit/install.
My project was delayed last night when I found a borla atak exhaust/carbon tips for $950 open box at American muscle. I have an Mbrp we were going to have to cut at the reducer. Gotta wait on shipping now but will post results next week.

I love the steeda k-member. It fit perfect with tons of room.

I almost thought about cutting the hellion charge pipes and raising them up a little. I'm lowered on bmr springs, but don't have any issues. But I'm running 20" wheels that are slightly taller also.

looking at the steeda k member for my sleeper gt350 does it keep the front horns to mount the angle iron support for the intercooler?

Wow! Night and day difference vs stock k member. I would assume the bmr would look pretty similar. Thank you for the pic. I looked everywhere for a pic and this is the first I’ve seen. Definitely going tubular. I have to work out how to mount 777 performance frame mount mach1 front splitter. But shouldn’t be too hard. Can’t believe how much space it creates.

Just a curiosity question but wouldn’t spool up be a lot better with front mount turbos with less plumbing seems to me there’d be a ton of lag with them back in the exhaust like that

The trade off for a faster spooling front mount kit is heat. The gain you would see in a reduced spool time is offset by a cooler denser charge delivered from a location thought to be a much cooler location for turbos. And while I’ve never had front mount turbos I’m on my second sleeper setup. The first was on a gen5 Camaro. It was 1/2 the quality of the hellion kit and I was generally pretty happy with the kit. When using tt setup you expect a little lag. What’s the difference in 200 rpm delivery. Ultimately I just learned to keep my cars rpm in the sweet spot.

No. But you don't need the support bar. I was going to make a bracket that bolted to the frame rails where the front crash bar is, but once you install the upper intercooler brackets and put the charge pipes on, it is rock solid. You can pound on it with your fist and it doesn't budge.

Haha. I have 64/66 ball bearing precisions and idk man but it's a millisecond spool depending on rpm. There is hardly any lag. I know the supercharger guys are gonna say theirs hits harder and quicker and that may be true, but what are you doing with the car? If your roll racing then you want some kind of rolling anti lag or hold the brakes and go wot. If your trying to squeeze every drop out of it.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the Steeda piece but they are not currently in stock and there is no projected shipping date. However we are moving forward with the install and planning for k member in the near future. Maybe they’ll be back in stock by then.
