I may have a buyer for my Whipple and I think the new Hellion emissions legal sleeper kit is the route I would like to go. I can find absolutely no feedback on the kit and the info on their website is very limited. They show the kit rated for up to 1200hp. Is there really any possibility that the stock cats will handle 1000+hp? I understand that turbos tend to be easier on cats, but that seems pretty aggressive.

Are you planning on doing anything to the bottom end?

Not immediately. I have a predator block and crank in my basement for a potential future build, but initially plan to test my luck on stock internals. I have done the OPG, CS, tensioner and timing chain upgrades.

Look at my thread about my Whipple installation towards the end and see what running too much timing and heat will do to the stock ring lands. I realize it's an apples to maybe crab apples comparison, but the top ring gap is tight and too much heat from pressure and timing on pump gas is a recipe for disaster on a stock hypereutectic piston. I wouldn't recommend getting anywhere near 800 RWHP on the stock bottom end or you will be in my position faster than you think. It took me just about a month of running it at about 780 RWHP to do what I did.

Link to the thread I am talking about: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...-of-a-whipple-installation-on-youtube.186202/
Look at the last couple of pages and see the carnage.

I don't see how turbos are going to be any easier on the cats? They'll also contribute to back pressure, which is never your friend with turbos.

I would just call them. I had questions when I did the whipple on my F150 about the twin turbo install and they were very helpful.

It's my understanding that heat is the real killer of the cats and that turbo exhaust tends to run cooler as the heat is being converted into energy to spin the compressor.

I was shocked when I first started looking at ecoboost cat temps, which rarely exceed 1000 deg f. Even stock coyote temps shoot past 1500 quickly.

Why not replace pistons with more FI friendly comp ratios like 9.5 and ring lands to match? If you're in for 8+ grand why not go for 10 and prevent problems? Trying to recycle stock parts seems like pound foolish to me.

What are your end goals for the car?
Emissions legal 1000rwhp on pump gas. Am i asking too much?

Kidding.... kind of. I believe it's possible, but maybe not realistic for me. Ultimately I am shooting for mid 900hp on E. Mainly fun weekend car but might hit the strip occasionally. I'm not out doing roll racing or mile long pulls. Totally aware of the limitations of the stock internals, but willing to take my chances to see how far I can go on them fully understanding the consequences. We do have emissions in my area. I don't have to worry about it at the moment, but that could change someday. With my Whipple, I could get it through without too much work, but the standard hellion kit would likely never stand a chance. That's the appeal of this kit, though I intend to inquire with hellion about purchasing non-catted pipes as well (for track use only, of course)

Do you have to do a visual test in VA? I only ask because I run a regular sleeper kit and even with no kitty's in my exhaust all my emission monitors go green. I couldn't pass a visual but I pass an obd test. Not sure if any of the other hellion guys have had the same luck but I was amazed I didn't need defoulers after I installed the kit.

We do have visual here. Kind of surprised all of your monitors pass without them.

Me too. I can only speculate enough exhaust gas is being recirculated that the o2s are happy? But really i have no clue why. If you have a visual inspection it doesn't really help you anyway but I thought I'd throw it out there. Not sure if other guys are experiencing the same or if I'm a one off?
