My PPF guy has already removed my wing. No tape, but paint damage.

I had mine removed twice and no paint damage. There should've been a thin rubber gasket between the mount and trunk lid to weather seal the gap and protect the paint.

@Tomster a closer look at the paint damage from the wing mounts. The damage was slightly reduced after being polished. Similar paint issues under the shark fin.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I don’t think mine has the rubber gasket. But I’m going to stop by my PPF shop and find out. If not, going to get one ordered ASAP.

Glad to hear! Make sure you prime and paint the bare metal before you slap it all together.

Those holes look punched and not drilled.

My wing mounts HAVE the seal. So, I can only assume it was over torqued or installed early before paint was cured.

Yeesh.

I had better attention for finishing details when I was in high school than I'm seeing in these pics of those drilled holes. Hacks indeed, they didn't even lightly deburr the hole edges from what I see, let alone paint the holes. I can (sort of) understand the attitude that once everything is bolted together that they won't be seen, but the specter of eventual corrosion is there.

For shame, considering what these things cost.

After seeing some of these wing mount photos, I'm sure mine is in a similar state. So, I decided to see if I could gin up a gasket drawing based on John's photo. I think I got pretty close, certainly good enough for a test cut, but I need the correct scale.

It will be a little while before I'm able to pull mine so if anyone has access to the holes, could you measure center to center between the bottom left corner hole and each of the outer holes? TIA.

And here's the drawing...

I will have that information when my car is done. I asked them to leave the wing mounts off after their repair.

If I had access to a mount, I'd 3D model a gasket for you guys. From there it would be easy to make a 1:1 print to use as an exact template. Crazy that there isn't one under there.
