Really good point here. I think OP would see considerably more savings in something different, like a GR86 or a Miata. Smaller, lighter weight so the power to weight ratio is still good. The GR86 is a fun little car, my brother in law has one.
Exactly! I would throw a Nissan Z model, BMW 2 series, or a Subi/Honda in that bunch as well.

Yep, lots of nice sports cars out there. Civic Si is a fun car. Type R is a bit pricey but the previous generation might be had for a decent price

Well I should say If you want a convertible look at the ecoboost, if that's not a concern yea lots of different options.

I almost bought a 2nd gen BRZ but wanted something different, and figured i had a limited window to get a RWD v8 coupe with a stick shift. I had a 2013 FR-S and 2017 Miata before the GT. I agree i'd go with either of those cars before going with an ecoboost mustang. With a preference towards the Toyobaru due to it actually being able to carry stuff with fold down seats and a decent trunk space. If im gonna drive a 4 banger it better be a banger on the corners!

the hardest part about a GT is keeping your foot out of it. if you do that she gets good mpg's.
It's really just the city driving that kills it in my experience. If i drive it normally i get 19. If i short shift at 1800-2000 rpm and drive it like a tractor i'll get 20. Not enough difference for me to drive it like that. Highway driving these cars do great, can easily hit 28-30 depending on how hilly your drive is.

Anyone switched from GT to Ecoboost , is insurance cheaper ? I daily drive 2023 GT 6 speed manual , really like the car but insurance and gas is breaking me. Doubt it will ever happen considering 2018 -2020 Ecoboost convertible . I'm 64 year old truck driver so big horsepower isn't big deal to me anymore .
I drive an Eco. The Eco drives just like the 302 did back in the day. It's got a good shot of torque at low RPM and runs out of breath about 5200 rpm. If you want to tune it, you get another 100lbft torque and 70Hp (for about $1500) and that's a really fun combo. You're not going to outrun Coyotes, but you'll outrun damn near anything else. It'll run 28-30 mph on the freeway and 25-26 mixed. Insurance is quite a bit less, but will be different based on your provider.

Thanks all for the advise , like I mentioned doubt will ever happen . Had a conservation with Co worker the current high priced insurance premiums is for parts like bumpers with sensors etc. and un insured motorist . Don't want a small sports car being chubby old guy they are nut crunchers getting in and out .

It's been said many times - with the Ecoboost engines you can have the "Eco" or the "Boost" - but not both at the same time. I test-drove an Ecoboost before I found the Mustang I have now. The 2.3L turbo was no slouch, but the V8 is, as my mom would have said, "gooder".
Also, the manual may say that you can put 89 in the EB but unless you are a lawyer who specializes in warranty claims you best be using name brand 91-93.

Can ask your insurance co regarding difference. But will probably take a few years to recoup what you loose trading.
If you want a convertible go far it :)

Personally I agree with you but we don't know the situation OP is in. Need to respect their inquiry as they obviously wanted genuine responses to their thought.

I would caution you from making this switch because you will probably loose money in depreciation on your V8 and still have to pay a retail price for a 4 cyl. I do not see you coming out that much ahead financially but you need to do this calculation for yourself. If the expenses are too much for you, you may need to look at other sporty cars that isn't a mustang as your solution.
Best of luck. ✌
Look at Mr. "Actually answering the question and providing good advice" over here

Seriously though you do need to look at transaction costs and depreciation when you think about doing something like this. If your state has it don't forget about the sales tax if you were to buy the EB from a dealer.*

*I know of states that have sales tax even for used cars. How's that for some BS?

I'd agree with this, but that's kind of the advantage of them. For the 99.5% of the time where you're not WOT, they do the exact same job as a Coyote using less gas. When you do beat on it, it uses a bunch of gas just like anything else, but who cares?

Just don't think you're going to be out-running Coyotes.

Sounds to me the op just needs more money.

at 32 seconds

Savings are ephemeral.

I owned GT and eb simultaneously for 2 years, switching off every few days. The only catch was you had to retrain yourself to use more gas and earlier with the eb.

The only way to save any money is trade down from new to used, say '19.

And for added pov

In my experience, the mileage wasn't that different mostly because I can never not get on it. But, if you've decided that an Ecoboost is for you I can affirm they are fantastic cars. I had a '17 Ecoboost PP1 which I sold for my current '22 GT/CS and I loved that car. I wanted the Coyote power and reached a point on the Ecoboost where more horsepower was going to cost more than the upgrade to a V8 would but that was my only constraint with the car. Otherwise, it was a fun driving car to take on a road trip, a spirited afternoon drive or daily driver. Ignore all the noise about what a real Mustang is or the sound blah, blah, blah...It's a great car too.
