@Vlad Soare - Not fact, but my understanding :

I don’t think you will hit the temp related limp mode under ‘street’ driving. I suspect it needs prolonged periods of high torque, high wheel speed and high LSD activation to get the temps high enough to self protect.

I believe it takes a few hard laps of a track to hit that zone and it’s probably unlikely to get that kind of ‘abuse’ on the street - without endangering life and / or laying down continuous donuts at the local McDonald’s ... lol

Here’s a thread that has a lot of good diff related info (but not the exact answers you were looking for) :

https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/inside-the-super-8-8-rear-end.150514/

On another note and based on you looking through the IPC config, did you see the option to activate the engine oil pressure gauge and / or the engine oil temp gauge (yes, I know that one is a calculated value) ?

Cheers,

I think this has been mentioned before, but yes there are IPC options for an oil pressure display.

It allows an oil pressure gauge to be selected on the digital dash, but the gauge never works.

You're wrong. It can get get high temperature by street use.
After some crowd munching on the sidewalk, the meat will pack and kill the passive cooling

- you are driving a Mustang after all

The only time my Torsen got above 200 was on a long trip, when it was 100F outside. And I was going near that speed :). It got to about 210, so still quite reasonable, no? On the city and freeways, it never got even close to 200F at triple-digit ambient temperatures; just on the highway at high speeds. But obviously not abusing the car at all.

I didn't look for those.
I'll try again today.

I already have the oil pressure gauge. An oil temperature gauge, even calculated, would be very nice, but the general consensus seems to be that it can't be activated if you don't already have it from the factory. I will take a look though.

OK, I did the change. The strange thing is that I had two similar options in the IPC configuration menu. One was "Axle Oil Temp Display", and the other was "Axle Oil Temperature Display".
I changed only the first one, since that was specifically mentioned by Lukas above. And indeed, now I have the axle oil temperature in the list of gauges.
When I looked today, the second option showed as enabled as well. So I guess they're actually one and the same, just duplicated.

My pleasure.
You must be counting the days, aren't you? 😁

I took it for a drive today. After about fourty minutes of city driving the axle temp gauge hadn't moved, so I got on the motorway and drove about 18 miles at 80 mph. Nothing. Not even a pixel above 50 °C. :frown:
So I'm not sure it's working. I understand that the diff warms up very slowly, but how slowly? I can't believe it doesn't even reach 50 °C after more than an hour. 😕

Check post #37 and also consider the users location compared to yours :like:

Hey, you didn't say how cold was outside. If it was cold, it'd be normal for diff oil not to reach 122F, so I don' think anything is wrong with your gauge. I need to go somewhere 30 miles from my house (each way) one of these days. Will pay attention if the diff temp gauge moves, and report back. The high is around 50F nowadays, so don't expect the gauge to move, even though mine starts moving at 100F, not 122F (50C), like yours.

Does the actual value appear on the data screen ?

It would be interesting to see if its showing a moving value, even if that's below where the gauge starts to read :like:

I live in an area where it stays relatively cool. I've seen days where I've driven for 2 hours and that axle temp didn't budge. It was 40 or 50 degrees (f) out.

The only time I see it move is when I'm on a freeway and the temp is above 60 or so and it takes a good 20 to 30 minutes at highway speeds for it to start to climb.

If you're talking about the screen with the numbers for CHT, voltage, intake air temp etc then no.

The picture that I posted showing my diff temp just above 50°c was with 20 plus mins of driving at ambient temps about 25°c.

I see. That explains it. The ambient temperature was 3°C/37°F, so I guess I didn't stand a chance, did I?
In that case, I won't know if the gauge is actually working until next May or June. :giggle:
