Gen 2 or Gen 3, they both look like catfish. I bought one because Camaros look like angry cheese graters and Challengers weigh more than an SUV.

05-09 was the worst. 99-04 was better
Ummm, no.

99 - 04 C-pillar area made the car look like the roof wasn't part of the original design and had to be stuck on as an afterthought.

I gotta ask . . . what was Gen 1, and why are we starting with Gen 2?

Norm
For whatever reason, people are referring to different Mustang designs based on the generation of Coyote engine. So:

Gen 1 - 2011-2014 S197
Gen 2 - 2015-2017 S550
Gen 3 - 2018+ S550

I hated the 18s when they came out.

Then they slowly grew on me. However there are some angles of the 18 that I just do not like at all. From the side profile, the headlights just look inferior to the lines of the 15-17. The headlights match up to the beltline of the car on the 15-17.

The straight on front shot of the 18s also just doesn't do it for me. I love the 18s from a 3/4 view on the side which really shows off the angular cut of the headlights and bumper design.

The GT500 and GT350 also look fantastic and I'm glad they didn't use the facelift.

The rear of the 18s are better though. The color matched diffuser on the base model 15-17 is just unattractive. The premium models looked okay but i think it looks best with an all black diffuser like the 18 does have. The quad tip exhaust being standard (for GTs) is nice too. Tail lights flow with the whole rear end more too. PP1 spoiler is also awesome.

Bash all you want on the Gen 2, but if they didn't make it, we wouldn't have what we do today. It's a goofy looking car by today's standards, but it's also just over 2800 pounds, if you could get your hands on one, and start stripping it away, I'd bet you could get it lighter than a 2400lb Miata, and drop something worthy in that engine bay to destroy everybody. Still got a soft spot for the Gen 4's though, because who doesn't like some curves?

I don't know what Gen 1 is.... 1965?

I know what a Fox body Mustang is, I think.
Gen 1 - Old school (64.5-73)
Gen 2 - Mustang II (74-78)
Gen 3 - Foxbody (79-93)
Gen 4 - SN-95's (94-04)
Gen 5 - S197 (06-13)
Gen 6 - S550 (hi, welcome to Mustang 6G) (15-?)
Gen 7 - S650?

Hate the added on roof look. Absolute deal breaker.

I had to order a convertible for my 4th gen F-body because of that.

Didn't want another 'vert so passed on an '02 Mustang. Also passed on a Mercedes E-class and others over the years because of stuck on roof look.

The 15-17 has always looked too similar to the ford fusions in front coming from a distance..Ive even made the mistake in checking out the mustang coming down the road only to be a fusion lol..My wife finally quit calling my gt a catfish once the 18s come out..now it's a guppy and the newer one's are the real catfish lol..

I kinda see the fusion argument but fusions do not have tri bar LEDs or a masculine hoodline

True stock wise...but the aftermarket did allow the Fusion owner the option of having mustang style headlights..

I owned a '16, now have a '20. I wouldn't describe the older fascia as "goofy."

I wasn't sure I liked the post-refresh look at first, but I've come to prefer it. I like the lower wider grille and the lower front. The front fascia is more sculpted, less "soft" - especially around the headlights. And, conversely, I never liked the "angry car" look of the lights themselves on the 15-17s; it was a modern departure from earlier Mustang designs that I never warmed to. Oh, and I much prefer the hood vents on the 18+s.

The tail lights...I guess I kind of liked the straight lights better.

Never thought of that, but you're right; the Fusion front does look better than the 18+ Mustang.
