Ford Flat Labor Time--Brake Pad Replacement

I was blown away when my local Ford dealer quoted me three hours to replace the front brake pads (2017 Shelby GT350) and one hour to replace the rear pads. (Pads only---) At $210/hour the labor only was $840!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is the Ford flat labor (I'm old--it is probably called something else these days) rate for front and rear pads?
I have the Power Stops in hand.

Bob, that’s called attempted robbery in my state!!

For $840 I can buy a plane ticket to TX, grab an uber, a 12 pack of beer for us, spend an hour doing all 4 corners, and still have a few bucks left over. Let me know, we can make it happen!

My few local ford dealers have shop rates in the $125-$150 range.

It is more like they are well aware what the customer will pay. Basic repairs will be done in my garage. Warranty will be Ford for sure. Hope to get my Kenny Brown jacking rails installed today and clean up all the bugs and grime from my last road trip after that.

I’d have to go back to an invoice to look at my dealership shop rates but around $150/$175 sounds about right. Totally different cars but FWIW I had to do pads and rotors on my wife’s SUV last summer and it was around $550 total (at a GMC dealership). Again, not apples to apples in terms of cars and parts but $800 just in labor is insane.

This is why we always encourage Customers to learn how to do their own service work. This is a very basic service. It's literally about an hour for all 4 corners. With a jack and basic tools. I can say that the biggest issues encountered when Customers purchase our products are always when they bring them to a shop to have them installed. It is very scary seeing how our instructions are written for the average consumer.

It sounds like they are not taking into consideration the time savings had by just pulling pins to remove the pads. I have done countless pad replacements on typical caliper brakes, and there's no way I could do all four corners in an hour from pulling out the jack to putting it back.

My local Ford dealership said Mustang labor is charged at the higher, Performance Car higher labor Rate which is BS.

Its an easy job you can do it yourself. Otherwise, take it to an independent service shop.

Was the quote for using your pads? That may have been part of the issue. Dealers and independents count on markup on the parts to meet their margins. Without that, they may have been adding additional labor to make up for that, or perhaps that was the "we don't want to install customer supplied parts" pricing.
