Thanks for all the responses thus far guys. My car isn't currently daily driven although will probably be soon, that being said when I do take it for drives I put about 50 miles minimum on it so I know the oil is getting up to proper temp.

The mileage is just under 8k and I have yet to change the oil. 90% of those miles are 2-3 hour stints of interstate. I'm skipping the wife's tales and waiting for the oil life monitor to tell me when the oil needs to be changed.

Just checked and I still have 23% life left, so unless my driving habits change in the next 3 months the oil will be changed at about 10k.

Whatever the internet tells you to do is obviously better than the teams of engineers developing the product.
Actually engineers would also agree changing oil early will be better for the engine.
Marketing people on the other hand would ask engineers if changing oil at 10k be a problem, the engineers would say it can do it but you lose some life of the engine like 20k miles per 200k miles. The marketing people would say that's good enough we gonna use 10k mile OCI instead of 8k because customers would think this car is cheaper to maintain.

Just checked my oil for the first time and it seems the dipstick is a bit on the flimsy side. Anybody else think that?

What a dipstick! Oh well, had to do it, I changed the factory fill at 1,600 miles to Pennzoil "made from natural gas" 5w 30 and went 6,100 miles and just did my 2nd Pennzoil 5w30. Find a Ford Racing oil filter as they have additional capacity.
My ASE certified mechanic stated: 3-5 or 6,000 miles is fine if I am not tracking the pony, and I'm not as of yet so I am happy, what a dipstick.

i did mine at 1500 miles , went to amsoil and factory filter.
im now at 5500 miles and im changing her again most likely this weekend coming .
might go with the pennzoil myself cause using the amsoil isnt worth it imo.. i did xl and i don't put alot of miles on the car to justify spending over 100 bucks a change for amsoil

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks the dipstick is flimsy. Somebody should make an entire replacement. I would buy. First oil change at 1000 miles with factory oil and filter from dealer since it was free. Now at 1700 miles. Not a DD but plan on changing oil at 3500 mile intervals. Haven't decided on what to use.

They all look like that it has to be to flex because tube is curved. It will last the life of the car and beyond

Just watch your oil level. I changed mine at 3500 miles and only got 6.5 quarts out. Thought maybe I was burning oil but just did another change at 6500 9 months later and got a full 8 back out. Maybe it was underfilled from the factory. Not sure, but either way I was down 1.5 quarts after only 3500 miles. All is well now.

Thanks for the heads up djpheer. I always check if I don't do oil change myself.

I only hit mine twice per year, fall, and then spring so about Oct/Apr for oil changes, that puts me right about 6-7K miles per. I use Pennz Ultimate/Platinum (whatever).

I did mine at around 2500.. I run it pretty hard and it was BLACK. Used motorcraft 5-20. I'll prob change it again around 6k.

That dipstick is not easy to get to for those with strut bars. Not conducive to frequent and easy inspections.
Anybody make an extension?

I opted for the service plan (super cheap) for 6yrs/70k all scheduled maintenance and I get oil changes every 5k. The first was at 1100 miles. If I ever want to sell the car a big plus will be having records of every factory service and a break in oil change. I know I could put better oil in it, but at the end of the day, factory services before the required intervals make for a more desirable car if I want to upgrade in a few years.
