First GT500 oil change

In most electronic fuel injected engines, when you hold the gas pedal to the floor and then turn the key (push the button) the engine turns over without spark or fuel. So it is the perfect way to prime the oil system if you don't have a dedicated electric oil pump for priming.

I never knew this. That is an awesome bit of knowledge.

I fill the filter full let it sit, the element absorbs the oil. This allows it to be installed with out spilling.

Then crank, having the filter element pre saturated, shortens the time of the charge.

This what what I have always done. My F250 PS had a filter that held 2 quarts, so I always pre-filled it.

so I topped the oil off today.... well at least I tried.... the car took all 12 quarts and it still wants more. It looks like it is about .5 of a quart shy of full. The GT500 specs say capacity is 11.5 qts.

Any similar observations?

By chance you use a dry filter, if yes? Most likely the dip stick is showing what has been absorbed by the filter element. They will suck up more oil then you may think.

Use WIXs myself it holds close to 3/4 of a quart, when saturated.

It would seem this is the case with many Fords based on the forums. My new F150 calls for 9 quarts, but takes 9.5 to hit the top fill mark on the stick.

At least the Ford engineers were kind enough not to make it more than a full case.

If we'd have had to buy TWO cases for an extra half quart, I think most of us would have been miffed.
