Firehawks are what I replaced the stock tires on at 21,000 or so miles on my 2015 GT/PP. I'm at around 29,000 or so miles now and the Firehawks are holding up well. Heavy rain, excessive cold in the mornings, or 100+ degree weather here in Northern California and they are great daily driving tires with spirited driving mixed in. I've not taken the car out to any track events but it would be the tire I run while learning. The car/tire combo has made some long road trips from Sacramento to Las Vegas. I've made the same trip with the stock P Zero's and I found these to be more comfortable.

In any case I think the positive feedback from Mustang owners are helping them out. Well worth the wait if you can find a dealer willing to track them down. The only complaint I honestly have is the size options. I've been considering squaring up my setup and increasing tire width in the process. Not a lot of options in the 19" rim has far as I can tell.
Yeah, Firestone scoured the end of the earth to find my OEM rear sized tires...and I believe they may have been the last set at the time nationwide.

Ha! I was told I was going to get "the last set at the time nationwide". They had exactly one set in the sizes I had previously ordered and paid for. Obviously they ended up somewhere else, b/c on 6/15 they were gone.

Today I mounted my new, lightweight, Enkei TS-9's and Firehawk Indy 500's on my car - I like these a lot - especially for the $$.

Because I'm building my car up as a touring/street car and because of the crappy metro-Detroit area roadways, I decided that I didn't want a 40 or lower series tire. (I've bent rims on 50's around here before.) So I went with a squared 255/45x18.

Wheels are 18x8.5. Also because of the crappy roads, I decided more spokes would be less susceptible to bending so these Enkei's have 9-spokes.

Wheels and tires came mounted and balanced with TPMS sensors from Tire Rack because they had everything in stock.

I knew I was going to shave some weight off and I'm pretty pleased with the results. My stock 18x8 Foundry's with 235/50x18 P-Zero Nero's weighed in at 57.6 lbs each and the Enkei's/Firestone's are 51.2 each. That's a nearly 6 1/2 pound savings per corner.

My only concern with these is that there is no tire shoulder bulge to help protect the rims and the spokes on these do stick out maybe 1/4" to 3/8" more than the rim barrel so any curb touches will definitely damage the rims. Fortunately, I don't need to parallel park very often.

I put about 10 miles on them tonight and they're quiet! And another bonus, although at this point I'm not sure why, is that the bump steer I was experiencing with the stockers seems to have vanished. I'll pay more attention to this tomorrow in case I'm imagining it.

The lip on the 500 tires is pretty small compared to another set of tires I have the Comp2 A/S, I know I curbed a few times but a larger lip would have taken more of the abuse than the rim but either way you're tearing things up.

I wish they made 275/45/19....that sidewall is exactly what I'm looking for.

Digging up an old thread, I know.

I'm shopping for tires and I think these will be the ones as the reviews seem quite positive for these cars.

However, can anyone chime in and help me?
I'm kind of a tire snob and would like to know many plies the tread and sidewall these tires have on the 255 & 275 PP1 sizes.

Thanks all!

Why didn't you call up the manufacturer?
https://www.firestonetire.com/tire/firehawk-indy-500/255-40r19

For everything else there is TireRack.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Firehawk+Indy+500
The tire's internal structure features a high-turnup polyester casing (2 ply in some sizes) beneath twin high-tensile steel belts and nylon reinforcement to provide responsive handling, stability and high-speed capability.
Are you telling me you can feel the difference between a carcass built with 2 or 3 plies? Or one where the overlap pattern in X vs another that is Y? Do enlighten us.

I appreciate you going out of your way to, 'help'?
I thought someone, and fellow enthusiast, that actually owns these tires could have easily looked at their tires and said, "It's a 5 ply/2 ply." or something else. It's just things I like to know. Apologies for having you go out of your way with your editorial.

I'm not an expert and not looking to do anything other than seek out some information. Is it pertinent to most people? No.

I might be new to this forum, but not new to forums in general by any stretch. This is the Mustang6G forum, right?! Ok, good.. thought I was on the Civic forum for a minute..

----------

Bluemustang:

I will likely buy these.

Overthinking is what I do. I like knowing more than what Tire Rack can provide.
Just looking for some basic info and thought I could easily get it here...

-----------

If anyone has more positive info for my inquiry, it would be much appreciated.

Youre just being obtuse about things you can do for yourself.

Great tires. People don't realize that Ford and Firestone have been together for many years. In fact the families are related by marriage. I think the explorer issue caused a family rift.
Just kidding. Firestone is bridge stone now. But those are nice tires and they look great also.
