But after saying that and seeing how there is a little bulge on a 10" rim does that mean they would be near perfect on an 11" rim? The indy 500 325s, I'm assuming michelin or something would be way too much bulge
That is a lot of bulge on the 10". On an 11" they'd look good and perform well.

Well now I have some decisions to make. Was going to get a 19x10 square 285 setup with the indy 500s because I was disappointed that the next size was 325 and I can only get an 11" rear in the rim I want and I read that 325s don't fit an 11" rim....

So now it's 19x10 and 19x11 and permanently get 325s in the indy 500 for the rear or go 19x10 285s all around. I'm assuming a 285 indy 500 will be stretched too much on an 11" rim

Now I have to figure

Holy man No, it's not. Go look at a GT4 Mustang one of these days. Same amount. Guess there's wrong too?
Come again? I have seen them up close and personal in Kohr's shop. They have to use a spec tire and wheel size, so bad example. You're just not correct. A low profile tire should be supported by a properly wide rim. The Michelins on the GT350 and R have rim protection, which makes them look a lot wider than the actual sidewall is.

Here are some pics of an indy 500 on an 11" rim. Beside the 325 are indy 500 285s on a 10"

My understanding is tires with tread widths that are at or inside rim width the coefficient of friction will be decreasing because it's less resistant to frictional shearing. It'll break away rather than deform with the road like a tire with it's tread width slightly beyond the total rim width. You want elastical deformation with the road<- from an engineer.
That is horse$hit.

A tire with width significantly beyond the wheel will break away very suddenly when it does, will give you less warning & feedback, and will be more susceptible to sidewall deformation and tread chunking near the sidewall. A tire with tread that's at or a little bit inside the wheel width will have progressive breakaway and will stabilize the sidewall, improving grip. Your engineer friend is wrong.

Tire companies have minimum recommended rim widths for each tire they manufacture. Those that put tires on that exceed that minimum will experience poorer handling, stopping and driving. The tire needs the rim support or flexing of the sidewall and poor uniform pressure on the tread will result. Might look cool and might work kindo OK, but will never provide maximum results.
There is no way I would ever put 325s on an 10 inch rim...

FYI my Ford dealership price matched Firestone's price, have running them on the rear for 10K and still have plenty of life left. Getting ready to get a set for front this spring.

Pretty much almost as dumb as putting a 325 on a 10" rim, just the other direction.
Please. So now you're calling me stupid? Sorry not all us dumbasses want a 10/10 tire/wheel.
