Nah this is a common myth people use to justify changing their oil at 1000 miles. Totally unneeded unless of course you just want to spend your money; but that's individual choice. Hurts nothing but the wallet

The factory fill is Motorcraft blend 5W-20.

Off topic but at 3K miles I was finally able to put in the AMSOIL SS in the car with their fancy oil filter. I now have a piece of mind. Checked the oil for shimmers.. didn't see any. Kept the Motorcraft oil filter.. plan to cut it open to see if we see any flecks. Crazy? Maybe.

Depends how you drive it. DD no need to get overly analytic- 5W-20 oil and a filter that meets spec.

Ford will warranty if you are using proper oil weight and filter to their specs; or OEM motorcraft. OEM Motorcraft is just more insurance they can't mess with you or delay fixing the problem.

Let's please keep this on topic. There are plenty of other oil change threads.

But yes, I know the oil is MC 5W/20. What I wonder is if they add ZDDP at the factory, since I believe that the EPA no longer allows zinc as an additive to over the counter oils. As I understand it, zinc builds a hardened layer to the surfaces, or something like that.

In my humble opinion, I wouldn't add it. A quality full synthetic is all you need.

I don't think it comes with break in oil but I changed mine at 3000 miles with MC 5w20 blend.

I have a bottle of Wynn's zinc additive. Would that hurt or help my engine?
I'd stay away from any additives. Today's quality synthetics are great oils. You'll be more apt to harm your engine with aftermarket additives.

Just put in a quality Synthetic Blend (Motorcraft) or Full Synthetic 5w-20 oil (Pennzoil Platinium, Quaker State Full Synthetic, Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline etc). Make sure the 5w-20 oil meets Fords spec WSS-M2C945-A.

I asked my dealer about break-in oil and got a "nope", just a suggestion to change it at 5k miles. I will be doing it every 5k anyway, because the car gets driven about 5k every 6 months (which is the interval for changing oil based on time).

One thing interesting I found, both my old Honda and my brother's F-150 (each high mileage), when we switched to full synthetic the vehicles used a lot more oil. Went back to a blend and all is well. I would not recommend switching types.

Nothing fancy added at the factory. Some will say it hurts nothing but your wallet. Complete and utter bs. Do you think all of the parts of a brand new engine produce no by products from breaking in? ask yourself again. CHange it soon, change it again... then wot and beat the snot out of it and change it again. WHats a few oil changes in the big picture of the car purchase. That's how I do it ;)
