Didn't see it in past threads, so advance apologies if this is a well worn road.

Does Ford use that special break-in oil from the factory that Honda uses? Or do you do an initial oil change around 1,500 miles?

I've had many new cars before, but never a Ford (or any American car for that matter!)

I was told by the dealer to come back at 3,500 for the first oil change

Break-in and break-in oils are a myth. Beyond assembly lubes used during, assembly, there's no special oil in that car.

Should I wait longer than 3,500 to let all the little metal filaments collect? Regardless of mileage, I don't think I should wait longe than 6 months.

There's no rule. I change my new cars @ 1000 miles, full synthetic and then follow the oil life meter after that. You'll have to figure out your own method...everyone does something different that's for sure.

I changed my oil @ 1,058 miles or so. An oil analysis said it was the right move for my engine.

It would likely be more than average metal in the oil but the oil itself is probably fine.
I am at 2500 miles on factory oil, probably will change it soon.

I had a lot and just wanted that junk out of my engine. I'll do another analysis (AMSOIL SS 5w-20) @ 6K (so 5K interval) and then go from there.

I swapped the engine, tranny and diff oil at ~1100 miles.
A habit picked up from my 2008 E90 M3 when that was new and it seemed like a good idea. (I know BMW M's use break-in fluids that need to be swapped when the engine has run a few miles)

Overkill, maybe, but I am happy! :)

I don't think it's overkill

Not to mention, people always discount the fact that it's getting better fluid in there earlier!
