I was considering this for a while but I am very glad I went with the 18 manifold.

Amen! There are many, many ways to skin a cat, so to speak. Do what pleases YOU and the way YOU enjoy your car.

Start watching @ 5:49 And later, pause the video @ 12:17. OMG...!!!!!

It's all you need to know. No loss of peak HP, as a matter of fact you get nearly the same peak HP number (453 vs. 457) 700 rpm sooner than the '18 GT manifold AND the F-150 slaughters the '18 GT manifold (413 vs. 391) in torque from 3,500 to 5,500.

The VMP dude mentions several times about revving out the Coyote engine, but my car is a STREET car, so there is no need for me to rev the tits off of the engine in my car.

Ask yourself this: "What overall percentage of my drive time do I spend at or above 7,000 rpm?"

For a street driven car, why would anyone run anything other than the F-150 manifold?

It is a direct swap with no tune revisions required...

Proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes.

Oh, and you can buy an F-150 manifold (with shipping) for about $100.

Nice.

Really makes me wonder if there is a way to fix the 6-6.5k drop off. I feel like it has something to do with the IMRC chambers. =/

I'm not sure they actually tested the F150 manifold as at the 12:17 mark where they show the dyno overlays it labels it as "stock truck". What does that mean exactly? And why not talk about it and show the installation quick clip like with the other mani's?

I personally feel no drop off at 6k so maybe the tune helps there??

It's the runner lengths. Longer runners will shift the power lower. Nothing at all to do with the IMRCs The only thing you could do to shift it up higher is cams.

Well Hell. When I did my GT350 manifold swap the 18 and F150 manifold options weren't on the table. Still happy with the setup even though my wallet is lighter. One advantage to the GT350 manifold IMO is good drivability and higher RPM options. Just had a short block swap and had the techs swap to MMR OPG/cranf billet. So power to 8000 rpm will happen when I have Lund retune my new engine.

Simple really. He doesn't mention the "truck intake" in any detail because he is in business to sell the sexy stuff.

He owns and runs a high-performance/tuning shop. Do you really think he is going to say something like, "...hey folks, if you have a strictly street-driven car (99 percent of Mustang owners) this $100 F-150 manifold makes as much power as the other expensive manifolds WITHOUT spinning your motor into the stratosphere; does not require you to buy any other parts from us, you can install it yourself with simple hand tools, and does NOT require us to send you a custom tune afterwards..."

Ah, no..., he is not going to say this because he would give people a good reason to NOT spend their money at VMP.

Too bad they didn't run the stock 15-17 manifold as well as a ported 15-17 one. Would have made sense and would be the most accurate baseline vs all intakes since it was same Dyno same day same operator.

The ported 18 looks awesome though. Makes more over the stock 18 everywhere and fixes that weird torque dip from 3200-3900 rpm.

Peak power and area under the curve are two very different things. If you are going through the gears at WOT you're going to have significantly less total power. If you shift at 6600-6800 vs the 18 at 7500+, the area under the curve between gears isn't even close, as you'll drop 1000-1200 rpm or so per shift. If you're starting at 3000 rpm, yeah, the F150 manifold will destroy everything, at least until the revs climb to ~5500.

Again, not saying that doing the F150 manifold is bad at all, and in some cases/usages it's amazing. However, to say that it makes the same power is misleading. It's easy to draw conclusions from peak numbers that don't translate into objective performance.

Do some VCT tuning for each manifold and watch the CJ destroy the 18+ intakes. Period. Same goes with the GT350 intake against the 18+.
