OK guys, electric pressure washer options with the primary focus being running a great foam cannon. I really do want to stick with electric due to winter/indoor detailing, even though I would use it for normal home and outdoor jobs. But the primary focus is still on the cars with foam in mind.

It is my best understanding that the key to amazing, thick foam is GPM instead of pressure. Does this one at 1800/2.0 do the trick for a foam cannon?

Thanks for any tips or recommendations.

I have this one and I get good foam. But yes in general higher GPM is better for foam. Water hardness plays a factor as well, hard water makes it more difficult to get foam. I have really hard water so I usually add a little more soap than usual to compensate and it works well.

I’m using the electric one from Griots Garage along with their Boss Foam Cannon and wash chemicals. It’s a few years old now and still works like brand new. Zero complaints.

Avoid gas pressure washers for cars, far too powerful for the job in question.

You are correct in thinking flow before pressure. However, its the opposite with foaming where pressure is what creates great foam.

For reference, my first pressure washer was a lowly Karcher K2, and that produced fantastic foam with a basic foam cannon.

The limitations with that machine showed when it came time for the rinse off, the lack of flow really made things slow, probably even slower than just using a garden hose.

If you are serious about using a pressure washer for cleaning cars, at the same time as keeping the cost down, go straight past the big-box-store machines and look at either of the Actives. Both versions were designed primarily for car washing in mind, so they have the flow to go with the pressure. They were also spec'd with aftermarket upgrades in mind rather than having those goofy proprietary connections that need adaptors to make function well.

The beauty of these machines is that they flow near 2.0 GPM of a Kranzle, at a fraction of the price. Should you want to upgrade the gun and hose, it's all designed to be done easily. When the Active is worn out, take those accessories over to a new machine.

If you want to go nuts, then go straight to the Kranzle K1122 (mobile) or K1322, the AR 630TSS, or Comet 1700, again teamed with the above accessories.

Happy to help further if you need, there is a lot to consider.

Yep, hard water is the enemy of good foam. We too have hard municipal water but the house is on a softener which brings the mineral level way down and generates excellent foam.

As for the pressure washer itself, I went through THREE inexpensive units (from the CCP,) and none of them lasted more than a year with weekly use.

I gave up, spent the bux, and got a Kranzle 1122TST which puts out 1400psi at 2.1gpm. There is just no comparison between the cheap PW's and the Kranzle in every respect and I expect it to outlast me. Highly-recommended.

I also use a CR Spotless DIC-20 which is a cart with two Big Blue canisters that contain resin making it an additional softener for rinsing. This drops my hardness by another 300ppm.

Bottom line is, the old cliché remains true.

You get what you pay for.

Have you changed the oil in the Kranzle yet?

Sigh.... Anybody know any better battery or truly portable electric situations? My condo building has a tiny area to wash cars but no power. Foaming isn't tooo bad but man rinsing is soooo slow. Im using a dewalt battery operated pressure washer.

Im tempted to buy a baby generator for an electric washer but concerned i will piss off building and now my setup is getting bigger.

Im concerned a gas powered is going to be too powerful and piss off building.

Budget - Active 2.0

Best - Kranzle K1322TS. This is a serviceable unit and will last a very long time. This is what I have and don’t regret spending the money on it. It’s awesome!

These are really the only two options I would consider.

I definitely have a Kranzle on my short list. I am rocking a Karcher 1800 1.2 GPM cube unit right now. It works with a 1.1 mm orfice in my foam cannon pretty well. I have to use slightly more product as I have really hard water. I have a DI setup for rinse, it is a small DI unit but the pressure washer being a 1.2 GPM it feeds it fine as long as I use a 15 degree tip and stand way back for the final rinse. Slow but works especially in my budget right now.

The 1322 is probably a bit out of my budget right now, but I do agree with “buy once cry once”. But thanks for the vote of confidence on the other.

*Edit...the active 2.0 is only 1,100 working psi, but it is 2.0gpm.

That Adams one is an Active 2.0, so a good choice.

The 1100psi is more than enough to run your foam cannon, and the flow is exceptionally good for the price. I would buy the Active if I couldn’t stretch to a Kranzle.
