I'm hearing dealers are not ordering the V6.

I just seen DHG's super awesome point about fleet sales. Nice, I was worried the V6 wasn't being ordered at all.

The EB should be close to 50x4 weight dist. Definitely an Auto X option, but, so would the GT I guess. The S197 was loved...

Problem is you just never know how reliable something is until its been around a while. Car companies are notorious for pushing something out the door half assed and Ford is no exception. The 3.7/5.0 are know entities. The 2.3 is not and I dont trust Ford any more than I do GM when it comes to new stuff. No way I will be a guinea pig.

I will say Ford is pretty good about not taking any chances on the F-150's because too much rides on that deal but dont think they wont try to slip something in on the rest of the lineup that is marginal.
+1

What about the longevity of the ecoboost... 26K miles in a year (which is what I do give or take) adds up quickly when there is a warranty for 5 years/60,000 miles. If that is their standard warranty?

I'll keep a running count of the order breakdown for the dealership I work for (since I do all of our ordering). Here's our current count for customer ordered '15's...

2 - GT's
0 - V6
0 - EcoBoost

As for store inventory, my initial gut feeling is to order about 60% GT's, 20% EcoBoost, and 20% V6's, then adjust accordingly going forward to match demand if I'm off much.

With the price and options structure that Ford has set up, it's a slam-dunk that the EB will be the volume model. Remember, there is no V6 Premium. That means the rental fleets get all the 050A or 051A trim, which is fine but not what normal people will order in large numbers.

If you want leather, or anything else that's Premium, you need to get the EB minumum. And tons of people will do that.

The GT is a SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLAR step over the EB. That's a LOT of money. (We're all going to do it, but we are weird. :headbang:)

That price step is what will keep GT production (and CAFE numbers) on the low side. Here's what I predict:

V6: 20%
EB: 50%
GT: 30%

well, the thread with a poll tracking what people have ordered so far tells a much different story.

0 V6
16 EB
66 GT

EB may end up catching up, but I'd guess many people want to kick the tires of the EB before they decide. Presales are going to be heavily going toward the "I don't care what it costs, I want the V8" crowd, but who knows (or really cares for that matter).

I ordered my GT, and that's all that matters to me.

This forum is in no way representative of the public. EB will outsell GT by a substantial margin.

I would have to believe this is true. Certainly would seem to be many more GT enthusiasts, racers, and old-school muscle car fanatics here -- and I mean that in a good way for sure. May the GT live on for a long, long time to come.

For what its worth, though, I did my part toward the transition. EB Prem ordered today.

I said it once before that the EB would grow into being the main muscle car and the GT would grow to uber-car status.

Well, I read through the comments and in conclusion I'm still planning on purchasing a V6, maybe with the 51A package and maybe with some other options even though I'm not a rental company...just me. Or maybe just the base model.

Why? I can afford a GT but don't want to waste my money. Way too much HP than what I need, expensive, and insurance would be astronomical. Plus the gas mileage is historically horrendous. Next I'm not comfortable with buying a brand new design being the EB. Maybe it has a track record in other cars but the Mustang? None. Others feel different and I say go for what you want.

So why the V6 for me? It comes with many standard options that I like, and nothing more that I don't. I don't like leather so nix that. It has at least 300HP...do I really need more to drive to work and go on vacations? Not. Oh wait..but what about racing that guy next to me? Ain't going to happen...I'm a little older than that. The V6 has been tried and proven true. A rock solid engine. The automatic - same. I loved my rental V6 so I do understand.

I'm also in no hurry. I'll mosey on into a dealer next year around June and see what they have. If I need to order I will with an X Plan. No biggy. I just don't need the best, the fastest, or the one with the most options. I want simple, classic, easy. Just like my first car..a 65 Mustang 289 with automatic..that's all it had and I loved that car back in the early 80's. That's what I want to go back to now - nice smooth ride, good gas mileage, some but not too much get up and go, and yet all of the spirit of the Mustang. That's me. Your experience may vary.

A very sound and thoughtful appraisal, Dirdle65. There's a lot to be said for "simple, classic, easy".

Same boat here. I had miatas for years, the old ones (1990-91) with no options. Makes them lighter and K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) less to go wrong. 51A for me with the 18" wheels, 17" wheels look like they are proportioned wrong to my eyes.

Albuquerque, huh? Ever notice a man wearing sunglasses and a black top hat driving a Chrysler 300 SRT? Anybody catch the reference?

You are a wise man sir. Thank God I am past the I gotta have it right now stage. I am going to sit back and see how these new ones pan out and let the price fall slowly and purchase with rebates. Or, purchase slightly used and let someone else take the hit.

I really dont want all the extra options either. Most of them are just gimmicks to me. As long as I have AC, cruise control, and an FM radio I am pretty much good to go.

No surprise there. But consider who is on this forum. We are the hardcore. The dealers are ordering EBs for the general public, and the people who "just want a Mustang" are going to be happier with the low price and more than adequate power of that engine. I think you have to really want a GT to spend an extra 25% just to get that engine.

In the Fox days, when the choice was the 225 HP V8 or the wimpy 88 HP 2.3, a lot of "normal" people bought V8s. That's not really necessary anymore. The V6 is a super engine for "normal" life, and the EB will be a good one, too. I don't think a lot of people feel like they need 440 HP (my guess as to what "more than 420 HP" will mean.)

Guess I'm going to be different and get a GT. LOL! My buddies would castrate me if I brought home a four banger.
