I’m on the lookout for a new tuner, and one that caught my attention is P1. They offer a multi-tune feature, which allows you to change tunes on the fly, which I find quite impressive. They use PCMtech to tune it. While I understand that there are other tuners that provide multi-tune capabilities, P1 stands out in my opinion. They offer a variety of options for the multi-tune feature, including pop, flame, ghost cam, e85, and a standard tune. This is something that I haven’t seen from other tuners. Additionally, P1 provides the option to use either the Avid tuning device or the SCT device for the multi-tune feature.

If anyone has any experience with these guys, I’d be thrilled to hear your thoughts. Also, if you know of any other tuners who can perform those ricey tunes, I’d love to know about them.

If you are looking at tuners who support our platform here is the public list of workshops. There are many others as well who are smaller shops or DIY tuners who have these capabilities as well that are not listed.

https:/www.pcmtec.com/workshops

In the interest of not favouring a tuner I won't recommend anyone in particular, however the majority of the shops on our page will do what you want. If you want complete custom tuning/ricey features, usually the smaller shops (eg the 1 man bands) will have lower overheads and more time for this. The larger shops usually have far more experience however they have less time due to their overheads, this means if something goes wrong or you want a very custom tune, they are less likely to do it.

If your car is heavily modified I would recommend a larger shop, purely due to the level of experience they have and number of parameter templates ready to go. If it is close to stock this is less of an issue.

We are happy to work with any shop you choose if they need assistance.

I've know very little about pcmtec. I believe it interfaces kinda like how forscan does and you run their software on your laptop and make changes there? I have so many questions. Do they offer canned tunes that get you started? Is it easy to tune a 10r80 transmission properly? What all can it do?

I'm tuned by Rob over at P1 tuners for my 2017 GT whipple 2.9 with canbus flex fuel and multi tune. I can switch from 600 whp to 800 whp on the fly and never have to worry about the hassle of checking e85 and flashing an alternate tune at each fill up.

We have been experimenting with power by gear to help cut sub 2.0 60 fts with 275/40/19 all season tires on the street.

It is computer software that can be used to alter nearly any parameter in the PCM.

Do they offer canned tunes that get you started?
No.

Is it easy to tune a 10r80 transmission properly?
No.

What all can it do?
A lot.

I think its mainly used to get Altimas and g35s to stop riding your as*...

Or maybe to get street cred at a car meet....

Not my thing at all.. But to each their own... Same with the pop tunes.. Like is this really needed...

All the things to make people think your fast, without going faster... I never got it...

But that aisle at Autozone always seems to have people in it... Right... lol

It is tuning software like all the other tuning soffware except we define as close to as many parameters as possible. Eg upwards of 30,000 instead of 3-4000 like some other packages. We also offer a Custom Operating system that works across the entire 15-23 Ford platform.

Multiple tune slots, rolling anti lag, variable rpm launch control, transbrake (currently in beta testing), user adjustable flex fuel content, true flex fuel via a continental flex fuel sensor.

We interface with the PCM via direct flash J2534 cables and a laptop, Lund LRX, Livernois MyCal, SCT X4, Avid Ultra Flash and anyone else who is willing to work with us.

This gives you lots of options for remote tuning and also direct flashing via a workshop (cheaper if you do not require a handheld device and the workshop is local to you).

Lots of information on our socials.

Dan Estal at P1 tuned my Mach 1. I have a 91, 93, E85, and valet slot with user input ethanol %. It is fantastic. My car is immensely faster on the local E60-65 than it was on 93 and the stock tune. Transmission is better as well. Though mine never bugged me much stock.

Since I have a Lund tuner, is it possible to pull that tune off of the LRX and into the PCMTEC software, then modify it from there and send it back to the LRX? Sorry if thats a dumb question. Just don't know anything about it yet.

Years ago, PCMTEC software would be able to read almost any tune. We pulled several PBD, Shoemaker, and Lund tunes at the time that were previously locked and were to edit and modify them with the PCMTEC software.

The tune I currently run started life as a Lund tune file which we tweaked to create a custom OS multi tune. I use my laptop and PCMTEC software with an OBDX cable to flash car now.

I believe over the past year or so, the ability to read locked tunes has been removed.

I know a guy who hasn’t run into one yet he couldn’t unlock. He’s not free though. Usually after you see a few aftermarket tunes unlocked you realize there’s no magic there and, in fact, you see a lot of shortcuts and disappointments.
