For those of you that went with a MGW shifter, is the push down for reverse a pain and you miss the stock collar lock out, or is the effort about the same once you get used to it?

Once used to it, it's the same.
This. I prefer the collar but once you are used to it, its the same and well worth the upgrade. I believe the Barton retains the factory style collar.

^^This, and there are fewer parts to break.

While I think the collar was easier you get used to it. Just requires a little more force.

I prefer the collar. I've had my MGW installed for about 4 months now. Takes more effort than stock, but it's not bad, it's just different.

The Barton Hybrid 3, DOES retain the collar.

MGW x 50+K miles. I don't miss the collar, although it was fun to fiddle with while sitting at a stoplight.

MGW on a Tremec 3160 - The OEM lockout collar is effortless compared to the downward force needed on the MGW but it's nothing you won't easily adapt to. Plus, there are endless options for conventional shift knobs without a collar provision.

I don't miss the collar at all and didn't take long to get used to a little extra effort.

Down and over for me versus the collar. A weekend after the swap it was second nature.

I regularly drive cars with both and it's not an issue, and I don't have a preference either way.

I just think the brain adapts - you bum in the seat and your eyes looking at the dash / wheel, must subconsciously pass a message to the brain of which option your working with today.

It will be second nature for you in no time :like:

Just opt for the one that A) performs the best and B) looks the best, and worry about collar (or not) later :like:

I got MGW‘s fake collar because I wanted to retain the stock look… While I would prefer the pull-up collar, it was certainly not a dealbreaker, and I adapted immediately to the push down lock out
