I've been on the build and price site everyday now and I just can't decide.
I will be ordering a 2015 convertible auto premium. Right now it's a GT premium w/50th AP. I'm sitting (with X-plan) at about $46K. I keep building an EB vert, premium, with PP for just under $40K. I've been building a pro/con list:
1. GT=435hp vs EB=310hp. But with tune and add-ons can I get to 350+??
2. PP=19" summer tires vs 50thAP=AS tires. I'm in Chicago burbs so I need AS, but....
3. $6,000 Delta, that's a lot of wheels/tires!!! :clap2:
4. GT is well, a 5.0 liter V8. What else can you say vs EB = 2.3L turbo. Is it enough?
5. GT= $$$$ insurance vs EB= $$ insurance.
My last Mustang was a 2011 GT and yes, I love the power but it's greatest failure was not having IRS. Sure I'm an older guy but I enjoy the entire sports car experience, not just 0-60 or 1/4 mile performance
What are some other opinions, ideas out there.

My opinion is that a convertible mustang will never match the performance of a hard top. It will never be as stiff, it will never be as fast, it will never be as nimble. That is just the reality and I spent more money than I care to admit on my 2005 convertible trying to change it. If you can never match the performance of the base hardtop GT, I don't see any reason to try too hard. A convertible is for cruising with the top down and enjoying the ride. I loved my convertible, and if I got another, it would be the EB for those reasons.

Drop the 50th on the GT. Substitute in the PP and grab the premiere trim package. BOOM submit and sit back because you will have a 435HP monster on the way.

Grab your self a set of blizzaks

I understand and have raced many hardtops over the years. Still I expect more than adequate performance from my ragtops.

Sorry, no PP available for the convertible. It's either EB+PP or GT+AP.

What do you define as performance? Are you racing at a strip, a track or autocross? If you drag the car, the GT is almost a must if you want performance. The EB may be able to be tuned to get some power but a GT can be tuned to get more yet, and has the option of adding FI as well.

If you track the car my advice would be similar. I think the power on most tracks will be noticed.

If you Autocross the car, the EB may be the winning bet given it is better balanced and lighter. Those tracks tend to be so tight the balance may overcome the power gap. Also the $6K price delta will add a hell of a lot of handling modifications.

Tough choice really, but in the end, you will have a Convertible Mustang. So all the choices are good. :-)

On top of that, you need to decide if you care about fuel economy. I wasn't all that impressed with the EB, but it is certainly noticeably better than the GT and will affect your budget.

Which mustang to buy was an agonizing decision for me and it took months for me to chose between the EB Vert and the GT Fastback with the PP.

EB...verts are for cruising, might as well get the MPGs to help with that.

Ohhh duh I thought you were looking at a 5.0 couple and EB vert. Well since the EB PP is pretty much the base GT performance parts I say go all out and get the 5.0. Especially with a Vert I would want the extra power.

I'm one of the lucky few where MPGs don't matter. I drive around 7000 miles annually. My '09 was a v6 and I regretted not having the v8 since day one. I loved the rumble and power of my '11 but it wasn't that nimble with the SRA. I really like the idea of the balance and agility of the EB but don't want to be disappointed with its power.
As someone here once said, first world problems. :headbonk:

To add to the agony I plan to mod either car. And like I said, $6K is a lot of mods!

This is a pretty pointless discussion. Most people with an EB will say EB and most with GT will say GT.
Everyone has already justified it to themselves so they'll use the same justifications to you.

You may as well go to a Camaro site and say should I get a Mustang.

Sorry man but you need to make your own decision here. What's your budget for down and payments, how many and white type of miles.

I could have squeezed into a GT but for my budget I decided on the EB Premium... guess what my answer would be.
