doulos4, I love this, but I wasn't a fan of drilling the trunk. so I took your awesome idea and modified it slightly (hope you don't mind)I removed my trunk panel and popped this wire clip,took a 12mm bolt and put it through the leash and tightened it down.I cut a small hole in the panel and pushed the leash through.this is the final result.

I had a '13 Abarth, and also had replaced the pull strap. In fact I am sure I have the stock one laying in my garage somewhere to use for this.Or if you want a fancier ($34.99) leather pull that has a little more heft, a grommet, and shape to it (I have the red leather one on my little Fiat's hatch):
