Today’s project was building wheel cribbing. I never feel safe under a car on jack stands, so I made 8 wheel cribs, each out of twelve 16-inch 2x4s. Each crib is 16x16x4.5 and is glued and screwed together for strength. They are used in pairs under each wheel, lifting each tire 9” off the floor, giving 15 inches clearance under my Mustang. They stack up neatly taking up very little space in my garage.

I use my Steeda Jacking Rails to lift one side of my Mustang the full extension of my floor jack. Because of suspension sag, this only lifts the front wheel 5 inches. I slip a wheel crib under each wheel and repeat on the other side. I then use a spacer block with my jack to lift the wheels high enough to add a second wheel crib, then repeat on the first side.

I considered buying the two piece Race Ramp wheel cribs, but they were $209 for only two wheels. I am looking forward to using these on my first oil change next week. View attachment 659506 View attachment 659506

Jenga … :giggle:

I need something like that - a cobbled drive can be problematic :frown:

Pretty much the same thing I did, except I only did the outsides which allowed me to run about half the material, and I feel much better about the tires sitting in it.

I have been looking at these for awhile and just got measurements. I was using the same design as @PaddyPrix . What are your lengths. I believe I have 12x21. Gives the tire enough room to sit and be held, and width for bigger tires in the future

I want to say 12x16, and using 96" boards, it divides nice so that there isn't any leftover. I run 18x11 and 18x12 wheels, and didn't have any problems or concerns about fitment. It sits a little on the inside as I'm nearly -4deg camber, but still way enough that it sits safe and solid.

Nice work.

I wanted to build some, but time is always scarce so I took the easy way out and bought the Race Ramp units.

I got it. I have the stock 19" PP wheels and tires, so I think mine are bigger. I took 2x4's and cupped the front and back of the wheel as it sat on the ground and measured 21". I'll have to measure y Subaru, which are 18's and see what they are.

Thank you for the feedback.

If the Race Ramps weren't so expensive, I would have bought some. Who knew foam blocks were worth more than gold? I built some of these myself, and I feel extremely safe under the car with them. When I hit the lottery, I may upgrade to the Race Ramps.

This is great. Additional bonus vs. jackstands is that suspension is loaded.. You can install sway bars with no load on them or technically try the alignment.

I tried to use drive on ramps I lowered the car onto using Quickjack - this would work better I think.

Here is my over engineered version...
Wood Wheel Stands2C.webp

Aluminum strips are to keep the top or the extension from sliding sideways. Designed years ago for my other car with 16" wheels, should still work for the Mustang.

Made a set of these as well, thanks for the idea guys. Makes alignments a joy.

How do you get the suspension back down to normal ride height? Is that why you have something under the cribs?

Reverse of this.
