I get your point but I have been driving for over 40 years and I have never rear-ended another vehicle. Safety begins with the driver not gadgets. But if everyone else wants to get ACC to prevent from hitting me-rear-ended twice in my Boxster in the last year-then I would be quite fine with that. :clap2:

I hear you, and I expect that many people think that way.

I agree that safety absolutely begins with the driver, and I also agree that generally rear end collisions are avoidable when following at safe distances (a practice that can be difficult in congested areas where a 'safe distance' is simply an opportunity for other drivers to insert their vehicles in between). But unfortunately, rear end collisions are only one factor, and 'safe following distances' don't apply when some idiot chooses to pull out in front of me at an intersection because he's too busy sexting his girlfriend on his phone to pay attention to the road.

Distractions have always been a factor in driving, but the smart phone era has ushered in a whole new level of distraction that has never before been seen... something you obviously didn't have to contend with for the first 32+ years of your driving history. ;) Willing to bet traffic was not as bad for much of that time either. More vehicles on the road means higher potential for collisions.

But I digress. The bottom line is, a very good driver definitely improves his/her odds of avoiding a collision. But nobody is immune, and the stakes are very high if one does occur. I'll take every advantage technology can give me to avoid one. If this feature allows me to stop considerably faster than I otherwise could in an emergency situation, and helps me reduce or avoid damage, injury or even save my life, that's obviously pretty priceless.

I simply view a feature like this as extra insurance. But everyone weighs risks differently. There is no right or wrong answer. The key is to make sure that whatever decision is made is an informed one, which was my primary goal in posting on the matter.

I just realized that when the Build and Price was working - the V6 model had the same lower grill as the ones we think have ACC. Which wouldn't make sense as the V6 can't be ordered with ACC.

Can you provide a link to the build and price, I cannot find it.

It was only up for a very short time just before the pricing was released. Hasn't been back up since.

I just realized that when the Build and Price was working - the V6 model had the same lower grill as the ones we think have ACC. Which wouldn't make sense as the V6 can't be ordered with ACC.

The example you show has the wavey honeycomb lower grill, which is presumably the non-acc grill.

Look at the markers above the cars. The V6 model image is the silver mustang off to the far right. The highlighted model is the ecoboost. I couldn't find one where someone highlighted the V6 one.

And I do see the benefits that the Collison mitigation system could provide. However, let's be honest here. Most of us love the Mustang for it's looks and performance. Not for it's safety features. If the ACC does alter the cars appearance, that's something that will personally bug me every single day. And judging by how Ford has done ACC systems in their other models - it's a safe bet they will also change the Mustangs appearance slightly.

I don't think I'd put too much stock in a qa/test website... Most likely put together by an offshore developer in India that has no idea about the cars. Probably just testing functionality.

Yeah I figured you just focused on the red one. ;)

And I agree. I'm not putting to much stock into the photos. But I think it's safe to say that there will be an altered lower grill on ACC equipped Mustangs. If they could tuck these out of sight, I'd imagine they would have done so on their other models - which they haven't.

Thanks for the info Tricia. The question remains then. Why do some cars have the honeycomb lower grill and some don't? Doesn't seem to have to do with trim level or package.

According to Build and Price I believe it is part of the 50th anniversary package option

I believe I have solved a mystery that no one has been able to answer Yet, Why We have Seen Different Lower Grills on both GT's and Eco-Boost cars.

I believe All Mustangs with the Adaptive Cruise Control will get the Lower Grill like the one we've seen on the 50th Anniversary with the Horizontal Bar and Blanked Off Outer Ends which is where the Radar/Sensors are located.

I think Mustangs without Adaptive Cruise Control will recieve Model Specific Lower Grills.


GT's will get the Honeycomb Grill with the "Fangs" continuing in the Lower Grill like this...

Eco-Boost and V-6 Models will get the "Wavy" Honeycomb Lower Grill to match the Upper.

I agree, you could still be right as Tricia's replay emphasizes keeping the parts hidden and the different lower grill allows that to happen.

from what I heard all the sensors whether they are adaptive cruise control, reverse park assist and the bliss w/ cross traffic alert are all hidden discreetly behind the bumpers as it was also explained at the auto show. the different grill designs quite simply would be of the different vehicles you ordered being a V6 the lowers might be blanked out but with the ecoboost there is an active grille system that adjust with speed either opening or closing allowing for a better aerodynamic profile which also increases mpg. the gt base will probably have a separate grill from the gt premiums which also differentiates the different models much like the rear diffuser. The 50th anniversary edition as it also states will have unique design cues whether it is the front or back and a few on the inside
