Hey guys,

Tell me I'm crazy. I'm considering taking the dive and ordering a Car Capsule bubble storage. I have a shadow black 2020 PP2 and have a "spandex" type cover for winter storage (I'm up in Ontario Canada). The other day I pulled the cover back and there was dust all over it , the dust is getting through the cover - this black car is a dust magnetic. It's ceramic coated, and PPF'd on the entire front end. I can't keep this car clean even when in storage - it's a curse of having a black car ;)

I know most are going to say get a non porous cover then. But I'm also thinking about this for protection about bumps and dings. My garage isn't huge, and my kids are bumping into the mustang, etc. I'm OCD about my car and keeping it clean and protected. I guess I'm answering my own question here - maybe I should bite the bullet and order one. It's too late for this year, but thinking I'm going to grab one for next winter. It's $730 CAD for the 16' version, which seems to be the right fit for a S550.

Who has one of these? How do you find it?

I wouldn’t. I watched a few videos and the setup is not good. To get your car into it you have to roll this heavy plastic over your paint. Every time. Obsessed Garage on YouTube did a video of it demonstrating it.

I was just going to ask how much of an effort is involved with decapsulizing the vehicle when wanting to take it out - and then putting it back in...

I was given one about 20yrs ago with the purchase of a car. It was cool once it was all set up, but unnecessary. It runs on fans to keep it inflated that suck electricity so it costs to operate.

I guess if you were showing the car at a busy public area and absolutely wanted no one to touch, breath, sneeze,or even possibly infect it with omicron, it might be useful.

Other than that it's just kind of a novelty.

Unless you want it on display during storage, maybe consider getting one of the storage bags from Car Jacket / Car Bag. They make heavy plastic storage bags that you lay on the floor, unzip around three sides, fold back, then drive on. Once the car cools, you put your nice soft cover on it, pull the bag over top, and before zipping it up, you add a few large desiccant pouches to absorb moisture. The cover and bag form a pretty good protective layer for the car and the desiccant and well-made zipper means no moisture during storage.

I've used these for a variety of cars for years and every spring they come out looking great - no dust and no rust on things like rotors and such. On older cars, there can be a bit of a gas smell when you unzip the bag, but that dissipates quickly.

I’ve seen the capsule things a few times in the U.K., but I’ve never used one or spoke to an owner that has.

A guy near me has two outdoor ones that are opaque, I don’t know what he keeps in them but they have been set up for at least 10 years …

Build a partition wall? Or put one of those accordion sliding room dividers up.
As for the dust, just leave it. As long as the car is not touched, there is no harm done. Take it outside in the spring and hose it off.

I used one for years. I added a dehumidifier. Kept my Corvette from deteriorating in a non climate controlled shop. Kept all the shop fallout off the car.

Houston's weather has quick weathers shifts causing flash corrosion.

I built a frame for it. Drive in and out. Not a speck of dust, no corrosion on the rotors, nuts and bolts etc..

A bit of a pain. But worth it in this case.

Power costs were insignificant.

Without the PVC frame. It can drag on the finish during installation. Takes two people IMO.
Has a pretty big footprint.

I would recommend their square sided units. They make more sense in a home garage. I had a wide open warehouse.

That's the 20 ft version.

Much better than a car cover. IMO Car covers need a clean car, clean cover every time. And most are abrasive.

I used it as a garage within a garage.

Great chance to show it off.
