Hey y'all so im watching on auction on a website that i wont specify so it doesnt get jumped on, its a 2016 5.0 PP procharged with a few other mods including corsa xtremes. Based on other end prices im assuming this will end anywhere from $30k to $35k and I feel like thats a great deal for such a good car, but i know theres a stigma behind buying someone else's build and with this being a gen 2 instead of a 3 and my Mach 1 on the way, should i let the impatience pass and wait? I figure if i do end up buying this gen 2 I'd probably be able to get my money back and maybe a little more by the time the Mach 1 comes in but you never know with the current economy situation. I'd love any advice!

i mean you already have a mach on the way. idk your situation but that seems like a lot of hassle for just being impatient. you cant really be sure that you will make your money back so what if theres a big issue that presents itself and now you just took a bath in the loss. also to note if its procharged and your mach isnt maybe you will be less thrilled with the mach performance when it does come since youll be NA instead of procharged. if its a clean build that price is pretty sweet but you never know. just my .02

Buying somebody else's build is not a bad thing in and of itself, provided that the price is right and all the risks are accounted for.
That being said, Kenny's points are valid and I second them.

You don't know how the current owner has taken care of the car, or any background on the tune, or supercharger install.

You're essentially going in blind without any way to even touch or test drive the vehicle in person. Any vehicle that has had aftermarket forced induction upgrades surely wasn't done just to go grocery shopping.

Any vehicle can look awesome from the surface....

Agree with all the above comments.

You have some insight as to what you'd be getting with the bid site car, but not necessarily the entire picture. You know what you'll be getting with the Mach 1. Blown cars present unique issues, all, some or none of which were dealt with correctly by the previous owner. Your Mach 1 will be brand new from the factory and received as one coherent system of components; it will work correctly and not need any work from the start.

Further, you have no idea what future prices will be. You know what it's worth now. Speculating on future gains typically leads to disaster.

Take pleasure in the wait. The hard work is over. Let the car come to you.

I have had difficulty with built cars bought from remote locations in the past. Built cars always require more attention than stock cars and finding someone in your local market who can support your car can be difficult. I find some shops want to replace everything that has been done with parts they are familiar with. I was fortunate with my Porsche, mostly because upgrades are limited and there are only a few vendors. But, the amount of stuff available for a Mustang is huge.

It all comes down to one’s propensity for risk taking. I’d want to buy it cheap enough that I could afford to unwind every single thing they’d done to it if necessary, but even then it’s a hassle.

I personally would never buy someone`s else build unless I knew the person.

There really is no way of knowing how the car was driven without taking it apart and seeing wear and tear.

But we all have different risk tolerance and financial means.

I spent months looking at other cars (mostly GT350's and ZL1's) because of being impatient waiting for my Mach to be built. In the end I'm sooooooo glad I waited.

I would only purchase someone elses build if I knew him in person. I am very picky when I mod my cars & dont cut corners & dont know if unknown seller did so. Seeing how some of the drivers treat their cars when we hang out is enough for me to be picky.

Yeah that's very valid, similar to the thought process i'm having. I'd be screwed if i couldnt move the gen 2 for more than i paid since i would just be eating whatever is underwater. Plus if it was a gen 3 i would happily take the procharger over to the Mach when it arrives, but you're correct on the fact that I wouldn't want to rob the special feeling of the Mach. And it's a whole lot of hassle instead of just waiting a few months, you're absolutely right thanks yall ill for sure wait

This is why I always say the value of the shop and tuner someone uses is more than one can understand. It’s worth paying extra for a well known shop and tuner. and Helps to keep all the receipts for the work.
