Anyone else's driver side stock headers look like this?

I was changing my oil filter and notice this on my 2016 GTPP. My engine blew the short block at 2k miles a few years ago, it was replaced and has 24k miles no issues. Hoping this wasn't part of a half-assed repair job.

WTF is that? Mine's a 2018 and looks nothing like that. That looks to be a hack? I can't believe you can't hear an exhaust leak.

Yes that heat shield is installed on the factory stock manifolds.

That’s strange looking regardless...

In the other images with exhaust off the car, what exactly is that gold metal covering? It looks like there’s something under the metal, almost like a closed port??

It's probably for an EGR port.

Or an EGT sensor. The port maybe part of a diagnostic procedure in the service manual to install a sensor.

Or It could also be an "oh shit fix". Happens all the time. They ordered the manifolds from a supplier. The part is a long lead item so they built it to an earlier released drawing, with a emissions sensor or recirc valve.

then later changed the design so the ports now obsolete so they blocked it off vs reorder parts.

Pretty common thing. The new supra has cutouts in the bumper that are blocked off because its space reservation for parts they'll be adding to the 2nd gen version of the car.

My old BMW e30 had a slide machined into the chassis and a T bolt so they could compensate for different transmission mount lengths

Its on cylinder 8 which would be tge honest firing cylinder which makes me think it's a port for an EGT sensor that was made obsolete.

Or its part of a diagnostic procedure in the service manual

after looking at that again... maybe that is the source of the infamous “tick”.... an exhaust tick it would be.... LMAO...:cwl:

I mean, a thin clamped off metal shroud trying to cover what appears to be a port under there, in the middle of an exhaust path? That can’t possibly be a 100% clean seal.

I'd like to see that same area without the gold intermediate shield to see exactly what would be exposed under it.... anyone have those images?

A factory assembly worker was having a bad day. I’m kidding but that was my first thought, except you’re not alone.
