Broke strut tower bolt

I'm so upset right now. I was tightening the bolt after replacing the dead battery and it snapped right off. What is the best method for this one? Got a link to a thread? Sorry, im just so frustrated.

I did the same on my 2016. Drill it out and put a matching bolt through the bottom and replace the nut on top. Couldn‘t tell It happened. Yes, it is very brittle.

I also broke mine when putting in a strut tower brace. I used a chisel and a hammer to knock the last piece out. Mine was tack welded in three spots around the flat metal on the underside. Took the nut to the hardware store and thread matched it with I believe a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 bolt, I also used a large washer on the under side. I will probably get it tack welded at some point, otherwise if you take the nut off, the bolt it will fall out. Not a big deal just a hassle.

Just curious why did that have to be removed to replace the battery?

Ah friend, I’m so sorry to see this, happened on my GT and it was just absolutely crushing. It’ll be alright though, don’t worry too much it’s not the end of the world!

I am fairly certain the thread is M10x1.25.

If you plan to run camber plates in the future then you will want a low-profile head on the replacement bolt. You can grind down a pan head bolt a little.

Like I mentioned earlier this happened to my GT when I took it to a shop honestly 3 months after I bought it new. Just know it all works out man, they had snapped one stud, but I had a great shop near me replace all 4 so they’re all the same again. Here’s a photo of one of the sides with the replaced studs.

The original bolt can be sourced at a Ford shop, if you want to tack weld it.

Just to be clear, I should jack the front end up, take the tire off, remove the inner fender liner and that should expose the bolt head?
Think I can take a small dremel cut off wheel and remove the tack welds and the head will fall off?

I believe that is the process. I have not had to perform this (Knock on wood), so not sure if the strut needs to be dropped or not. It shouldn't require any more than getting in there with the Dremel.

Well, just got done with the repair and that $#!+ was a MFer! Drilling out the bolt took 2.5 hours and another 1.5 hrs with a dremel and a 12 1.75 tap. Seems like i spent the whole day on it. Got a class 10 metric bolt and washer. They're all torque to 40 ft lbs. Not a fun job.
