Hi all, looking for any experience from other members about fitting and using the Ford Performance bonnet struts OEM#2215896

Any hints and tips. I am aware the battery cover needs a hole prepared for the locating kit on the passenger side but is the kit easy enough to fit etc. It seems it but prefer real world experience so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

To fit on 2022 Gen 6 S550 GT

Thanks in advance

Just get the ones from Redline. I think the Ford Performance hood struts are rebranded Redlines, anyway. I'm using them on my Mustang and my Bronco, and they work great. I think the Mustang ones are almost 8 years old, at this point, and they were used when I bought them. Redline also has fantastic customer service.

I agree, FP are just rebranded Redline's. BUT, I much prefer the Roush ones. They are much better made. 2 bolts on each end, more sturdy.

They're easy to find via Google.

Thanks, the main search has come up with Redline Tuning 21-11035-02 Hood QuickLIFT PLUS System Compatible with Ford Mustang 2015-2023 (All Black Bolt-in Components) so this seems to be the compatible part.
I am based in the UK and options I have are to buy this through Amazon for £86GBP (couple of weeks delivery and not sure on my return options) ot the FP item sold directly from Ford in thebUK for £115 GBP

Those are hardly your only two options. Perhaps you should read through this thread for more information.

You might also do a search on the forum as I'm positive there are more than that one post about the subject. Use the term "hood" rather than "bonnet" and you'll find more information

FWIW, I've had the Redlines on since about 2020 and they have worked flawlessly.

Thank you. I am new to the forum so still finding things out. Bonnet is what we call them this side of the pond LOL.
Thanks again.

I went with the Ford Performance as I wanted to have the Ford branding to keep it factory looking. I've had them on my car for 8 years with no drama's, I don't think you can go wrong with them. Bonnet here in Australia 2 😁👍

just one word of warning ,,,,,i fitted the ford perf ones on my car but changed the bonnet/hood a week later to cervini one and due to different weight had to change them to cervini ones
i made same mistake with self opening ones on boot /deck when i fitted a rear spoiler
you may not be changing either but this may save others i have both sets sitting in a drawer

Ford Performance here too. Had them on my 2015 for nearly a year and a half but very happy with them. So much easier.

I paid about £150 for them at the time off Ford’s eBay store, so either way you’ve got a much better price than I did 👍.

On the subject of the battery cover, this isn’t a tip per say, but I also cut a slit in the hole that goes back to the strut. That way you can bend it completely apart to get the cover around the strut without having to disconnect it to get the battery cover back in place. Just makes battery maintenance a little easier and reduces stress on the other strut holding up the entire bonnet/hood for a few seconds. 🤷‍♂️

My Redline struts are 9 years old and starting to sag a little. I now use the prop rod for extra security, so what was the point in me installing struts?

Well, they all sag eventually. Doesn't that make them a "wear item"?

You're right, all gas struts will eventually fail. I've replaced them on several cars over the years. In fact I'll probably have to replace the struts on my '12 Edge lift gate in the next year or so.
But they're not terribly expensive and are easy to swap out.
It shouldn't be all that difficult to find struts to replace the Redlines (or any other brand) when the time comes if it's something that bothers you.

And the lifting force varies with ambient temperature.

I suppose I could buy some generic gas struts, maybe from eBay. I can provide dimensions for the search but I don't know what to input for the gas force.

I had redlines on my ‘19 GT/CS all 6 years
They still work great and were extremely easy to install
