My car gets driven year round but I tend not to drive it in rain or snow. Sometimes it will sit for a week or two occasionally a month depending on the weather. I would like to put a tender on it but remembered the battery cover. Can I attach the clips to the positive post on the PDC and the ground stud or should I just get cable that bolts to the battery terminals and has a plug hanging out of the cover?

Oh man, now you went and done it…that’s like asking Coke or Pepsi around here. I say it’s whatever you feel comfortable with, some alligator clamp the posts, some leave the battery cover off, some bolt the cables on so they don’t have to remove the cover ever again.

mine is also a daily and I just alligator clamp onto the battery posts, the cover goes back on most of the time, but without the clips …been doing it that way for 68,000 miles and only two batteries, the original and one replacement šŸ˜‰

Connect to whatever you can reach.
Connecting directly to the battery will bypass the battery monitor system. You will charge the battery but the car won't know.
Connecting to points outside the battery box will charge the battery and allow the BMS to recognize that it's charging.
Bottom line, either way will work and neither will cause any damage.

My Edge is our spare car. It can sit for a month or two at a time. I hardwired a battery maintainer so that the BMS is aware with a cable that extends into the grill. I don't even have to open the hood to plug it in or unplug it.

Make your positive connection to one of the terminals under the fuse box cover and the negative to the bolt on the strut tower where the battery ground is connected. No need to deal with the battery cover and no risk to the BMS.

I vote for (+) to the under hood fuse block and (-) to a chassis ground. It provides for a cleaner installation, supports BMS and allows you to hock up and disconnect without opening the hood.
I second this. Mine is connected to the fuse box and strut tower full time. The actual tender is zip tied to the big wiring harness on the strut tower. Easy peasy to plug in and unplug at will, exension cord fits in the crack between the headlight and hood perfectly.

Mine is alligator clipped to the positive terminal and negative to the stud on the strut tower. This is per the owners manual.

I use this method too.
But when shopping for a maintainer, get one that already comes with the quick disconnect in the line, so you don't have to DIY anything.

Yeah the Noco I got had ring terminals already there. Made it easy to screw in and just tidy up the wires out of the way. And the AC cord was super short but running the extension cord under there isn't a problem it fits real nice. Mine stays on the tender all the time during the week as I only drive on weekends normally unless I'm on vacation.

hello
I installed a Ctek CT5 TIME TO GO battery maintainer.

As instructed by Ctek, I connected the positive terminal to the battery and the negative terminal to the chassis (the shock absorber top bolt in my case).

I chose the Ctek connector that indicates the charge level. I connected it without opening the hood.

Awesome, my maintainer comes with the alligator clips but I can get the ring terminal harness for a couple bucks.

Hello
Little info found in the manual for the correct location of a ground for my Ctek or cable connection.
There is a small support where a mass is already connected to the passenger shock absorber bowl.

I used the short harness with the connector and put the eyelets directly on the battery.

I went direct to the battery with mine, on the 17 I had and when I traded it in 6 years later it still had the the original battery. So I connected it the same way on my 23. Btw the BMS every one worry's about is inactive while the car is not running so, in my opinion don't worry about it. Just hook it up how ever you deem the best way.

BTW, I'm in Cleveland so my car gets put away around Halloween and stays in storage until at least 3 heavy rains to wash away the salt, around mid April, early May.
