Yes I did disable everything I like the way it feels. I have not yet tried turning back on the active return. Might try it today.

I am lowered 1/2 inch with steeda's min drop springs. Bilstein struts.

Hey,

I ordered a Mach 1 steering assy today. In EU is marked as special vehicle (Mach 1, Shelby).
For a 99% it should fit an ordinary GT.
For the next step I plan to reflash my EPAS with a Mach 1 calibration.
I will keep You Guys posted. Keep your fingers crossed.

Is there a manufacturing variance between model years or platforms that made you want to buy a Mach 1 steering shaft assembly?

Also to note, if you have seen my earlier response in this thread regarding the other extensive thread I put together regarding EPAS, ā€œrecalibratingā€ an existing EPAS to another model year/platform calibration isn’t just going in and changing code with Forscan.

The actual EPAS hardware units have distinct Ford Part numbers between the various platforms (ie: Base GT/EB/V6, GT/EB Performance Packs, EB HPP, PP2 GT, GT350/350R, GT500, Bullitt, Mach 1, etc). The EPAS unit has to be matched to the As Built codes. As far as I know and no one on here has posted/confirmed any such updates, you can’t just go into Forscan and change an existing EPAS coding to acquire the exact same steering performance level offered on XYZ platform.

Yup, there is. Mach 1/Shelby steering shaft is much stiffer than the one from ordinary GT.

I never said I will use Forscan to do that :) Forscan is somewhat limited in this regard. I will use completely different programming tool called UCDS Pro+.

The steering shaft? Or some connector/bushing in the steering shaft assembly?

My bad I have not been active on here to provide an update. I have had PDC off since I made the thread. Still very satisfied with the results although have been considering re-enabling to see if it continues its negative behaviors or if they have subsided like some on the f150 forums describe. I have not had the courage to dabble with the other steering options in Forscan- I’m just too unsure of what they actually do.

@Marcin38 what is this UCDS Pro+? Also following on the Mach 1 steering rack retrofit, please keep us updated. I knew someone had to have the same idea! EDIT: Does the steering rack APPEAR to be plug and play? I’m aware there will have to be software changes, although are the connectors the same across the different models?

If anyone has anymore info on the active return and soft end stops Forscan options please let us know.

Thank you all for the interest in the topic. Steering is the ONLY category I have been disappointed with after mods. Looking forward to improving it.

Small but rather important update from my side.

I finally managed to replace the steering shaft in my GT. Operation was succesfull, plug and play I'd say.

As per steering shafts comparison, the one from Shelby is bulkier, heavier and it looks much more rigid than the one from GT. Rubber parts are also considerably stiffer.

I attach pictures of both steering shafts for You to compare.

Now for the overall feelings from behind the wheel after replacement. Sad to say I have not observed any significant changes in steering feedback/precision whatsoever.

My conclusion is that it is possible to fix the sponginess of GT steering feel but with a proper epas calibration.

My next step will be the attempt to implement Mach 1 epas calibration to my GT file.

A predictable outcome.

I think there's a general misunderstanding of what EPAS is and what it does. It's very complex and sophisticated, and removes ALL steering feel deliberately.

Ford did this to stop people coming into dealership service departments and complaining about steering issues and vibrations.

@Marcin38 That is a big difference in hardware but I understand the lack of difference in feel. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I foresee any software changes making a bigger impact. Also, I attempted to read up on UCDS Pro+? I’m unsure what it does completely, it looks similar to Forscan but with more dealer like features. Would this program allow you to update the factory powertrain/transmission calibrations?
