The rear speakers on 2019 onwards B&O cars are not actually that bad, and do very little work anyway.

Other than the sub, the 12 speaker setup is perfectly OK unless you want to spend a lot of money upgrading. Plus you need to soundproof the car better as well otherwise it is pointless! I added an extra layer of soundproofing under the boot mat which made a big difference - there is a lot of noise coming from that rear end - not nice noise either!
This is a very good product: https://www.tkoperformance.com/2015-2021-Mustang-Blockit™-Quick-Quiet-Mat_p_2008.html

I’ve used it in three S550 Mustangs. It is essentially a die-cut trunk mat made of BH Five: https://www.blackhole-america.com/

The mat is thick, heavy, and compresses very little.

In my 2020, the rear deck speakers sound worse than any I have ever heard and sound like they are behind a wall.

Totally agree on the sound from the trunk, is crazy loud. Have been thinking about whether to used a thick trunk mat or pull up the carpet and use sound deadening material.

I used foam carpet underlay cut to shape under the rubber boot mat. Works really well and very cheap.

Rear speakers are designed to have lower volume compared to the front to maintain the soundstage. Putting different speakers in will not make them any louder without changing the DSP settings.

Well, I'm 57, have had dozens of cars, and installed Car audio for years. What you describe is not necessarily so. A true premium system is designed to give a full balanced experience, particularly for the driver and front passenger. The quality of the B&O from front speakers is good, not great, but the rear is NOT an issue of volume, it is quality. NO lows, NO highs, MUDDY muffled midrange, even at max volume from rear deck speakers. Ford should be embarrassed.

It is the trend, my High end JBL system in the Tundra had decent front and crappy rear. New Infinity Speakers all around (all 4 doors, and 2 A pillars, no sub) and even the stock head unit sounds fantastic. I'm old school, so think subs are stupid, and prefer full bass and sound from each speaker. I'd never add one to a system, but would like the one I have to sound good.

Not sure where you will get low frequencies from without a sub in a car - and I don't mean silly boom boom boom base, I mean proper controlled base. The mid range speakers used in cars just are not big enough for low frequencies. Look at the size of the speakers in domestic setups to see why the sub is used in a car. It is just simple physics.

To be fair, you actually don’t want rear speakers in real audio cars. You want the sound to come from front, those are simply fill speakers for passengers

In a German forum, the ESX Quantum QXE62 were suggested as a good alternative.

what do you think?
I have never heard of the ESX brand in the USA. I see that they have a distributor based in Texas, but I’ve never physically seen the product. I can’t offer an opinion.

It’s supposed to be plug and play. Here’s the photo from the link that I provided earlier:

So once all was said and done I did order my 2021 with the B&O 12 speaker setup and though its has a good amount of bass I do agree that its very loose and muddy.
This thread focuses more on the older shaker system a lot so I wanted to confirm what Sub does work in the newer 2021 B&O setup as an upgrade and is it just a drop in to the factory enclosure or do you need an extra amp?

The very first post answers your question about which one fits with minimal effort. This thread has always been about B&O not shaker.
As to whether you need an amp or not that’s up to you. I would (and did) add an external amp.

Sorry along the way I read a few posts where people were talking about the older setup so I got confused. The Shaker confusion may have been more about rear speakers and not the sub.
