Hey gang, I already used the 'B&O 10" sub replacement guide' to replace the crappy B&O sub with the Pioneer. I was going to leave it at that, but now that a new incessant (and ultra annoying) dash rattle emerged, I'll have to remove the damn dash trim again, which I did for the first time when replacing the gauges with the GT350 ones, breaking a tab, and many clips. Oh well.

And that brings me to this thread. The only 2 crappy B&O components are the center speaker and sub. Since I'll have to remove the dash piece again, might as well upgrade that stupid little speaker too :). Is there an alternative speaker like the Pioneer sub? I'd like something as close as 'plug-and-play' as possible. Don't remember if the center speaker has like a mini-harness (hope so), or not. I'd like NOT having to cut the wires, to leave the harness intact. With the sub, I just destroyed the connector, so another one could be used... but I didn't mind doing that since I don't consider the sub part of the harness. For those who have done this, please let me know what was your choice, and what was involved for the installation. Just like with the sub, I don't want to change the ohms; something that will sound better, and not put any added strain on the amp. Thank you.

I just snipped the little wire under kick panel, you could attach them with a piece of electrical tape. brown connector if I recall, on 17 car, it was a neon green wire. I know it isn't what you want, but it was easy, reversible, and no trim needed removed. you can reach it without any removal of any sort. just lay down and look up in there, lol

I don't have an issue with that speaker, so don't want to eliminate it. But I saw pictures of it, and it's a total piece of crap, just like the sub. The reason I want to replace it is I have to remove that panel again, to fix that annoying creaking noise, so might as well do this mod/improvement, to not remove the damn thing in vain :). I remember reading about somebody doing that, but can't find anything. It might have been on an unrelated thread, and since I wasn't planning on doing that, didn't take any notes or anything. And no sense in watching such a thread, since I wouldn't know why I saved it a week later. Ha ha.

Hope to get an answer soon. I only remember the guy had to buy a pair of speakers, so he might still have the other one to sell cheap :). I'm also curious at the wiring situation, but for what you mentioned, seems like the connector is on the speaker itself, so I'd have to splice the wires. Since it's just that crappy speaker, it's not a deal-breaker. I'm sure that tiny speaker won't have the push-in connectors of the sub, so will have to cut the wires, and crimp the appropriate terminals instead.

Me too. Ha ha. But no help :(. Hope somebody chimes in soon. I know at least one person did that, but still can't find the thread where I saw that. Give it a try, and post the link if you have better search skills than I do :).

I found the Polk db351. Box comes with 2 so if you're interested 1 is $50 shipped.

Here you go my friend. Remove the factory center speaker and then clip the two wires at the terminals and install female spade connectors on the leads. Plug the factory speaker connector back into the factory wiring harness, so that you can make it plug and play to your new speaker of choice. This is a pic of my B&O center speaker btw.

Did you replace it with anything or did you just need it out of the way for something?
I removed it altogether because it sounds better without it. IMO, the center speaker is best suited for watching movies, not playing music. Others may disagree with that though.

Thanks, but they need to be 8 ohms, and those are 4. Will try to find something comparable. And I guess the tweeter has to be shallower than those super tall ones; don't know how much clearance we have. The depth shouldn't be an issue, since the stock speaker looks quite deep. Width could be an issue, but I don't think there's anything close by. Maybe somebody can chime in on that :).

Here you go my friend.
Hey, you're DA' MAN :). Thank you very much for that super help. Now we know a new 3-1/2" speaker would be plug and play, needs to be 8 ohm, and probably not more than twice 12.5W, or 25W. Couldn't find anything on Crutchfield, but will google it and see if there's something available.

If you still have that speaker around, can you please measure between the holes, just to make sure a 3-1/2" fits? And can you post a picture of it from the side, and its depth, please? That'd be awesome. I assume a wider magnet shouldn't be an issue, but do you remember if there was anything in the way? Thanks a million again for your great help.

Finally, what happens if you put a 4 ohm speaker there, instead of 8? Hope I don't have to take that route, but just curious. Thx.

I think 4 from 8 would just make it louder.
If you find a hi quality speaker please post a link here.
Thanks!

Photo #3 is the center to center
measurement for the mounting holes.

Photos #2 & #3 are what I was describing in an earlier post that you can snip the wires at the terminals, unclip the plug from the speaker and install female spades on the ends of each speaker lead to make it plug and play for your new speaker. Try out a 4 ohm speaker, it won’t hurt anything. If your ears like the sound then I’d roll with that. We’re all different when it comes to the type of sound that we’re looking for.

Let me know if you need anything else
