Hey guys, I currently have the flex tune from Lund, and I was wondering if i’m able to read the alcohol percentage like you can with the ngauge? If not, how do you guys know if it’s ready for WOT pulls, etc.? (currently have the RTD device)

Test prior to filling, I also added a sensor on my return line.

I have a sct device so I can't help you figure out how to log on the rtd but if your on a flex tune once your afr settles where it should be you know your good to send it. If you aren't sure of the e content at the pump that will be tricky though.

Get yourself a trusty E85 test kit and test it right at the pump.

Do you have to so this with each tank of gas/e85 before going WOT with a flex tune? How long does it typically take to settle?

Easy answer is it depends.... if your consistently running e85, or e10, or e(anything) with out switching the ethanol content, then no your car has already learned it and will adapt/ learn fast. If your switching ethanol levels it needs to relearn. Mine used to learn as quick as 10 mins of driving and some times closer to 30 mins of driving.

Who cares what % it is. You have a FLEX tune.

Got it. And now that the nguage is gone there is no more learn flag so you have to look at afr?

That's the easiest way I know of. Test your fuel for e% so you know where afr should settle.

...I'd just get some of this: Cruzan® 151 Rum

That way you'd be sure of the alcohol content....................:like:

so you have to look at afr?
No, you have to look at the short terms, & for that you need a laptop. Staring at the AFR is meaningless.

Not necessarily. If you know what % of ethanol you have in the tank then you should know where your afr should sit at idle. Once it stops hunting and fluctuating and settles to a steady .3 margin the Lund flex tune has finished learning. I used this method for years before switching back to pump gas. I'm not saying getting your laptop out is a bad idea but it's not always convenient. Biggest thing is you have to test your fuel and know exactly how much e you mixed in the tank. If not you won't know where your afr should be settling.

Seems like technology is going backwards. Wish I would have gotten an nguage a year ago :/

I do my own tuning with an HPTuners MPVI2 and use a laptop with VCM Scanner software to monitor Alcohol Percent, Inferred AFR Status and Inferred AFR Source while datalogging. I have not worked with an RTD device but it appears it uses the same VCM Scanner software available free from the HPTuners website. At this Lund link, there's some info on using the software with the RTD. Might need to "repoll for supported parameters" while connected to the vehicle after loading the flex tune. Then you should have Alcohol Percent as a channel option to select for logging.

For day-to-day easy monitoring without the need for a laptop, I use one of these with an app on my phone: https://www.obdlink.com/products/obdlink-mxp/

This device allows me to monitor Alcohol Percent, STFTs, LTFTs, Knock Retard, etc. I usually watch the app for 10-15 minutes after a fill-up to have an idea of the learned alcohol percentage for that tank. There are similar (many cheaper) devices like this available, but this one works well for me.
