Active exhaust was the only option that I really wanted. Unfortunately couldn't get it done... though an x-pipe with the stock exhaust should really nice.

A blessing from Ford for those of us with nosey neighbors - developed by a Shelby guy for just that reason - his complaining neighbours. There are some you tube videos that show the valves opening under power - very cool.
Cool story. Hadn't heard that before. Do you know where you heard it?

or GM was doing the same with Corvette and Camaro and it was simply Ford playing 'feature parity'. Frankly I wonder if Ford invents much of anything that isn't already being done by GM.

valves in exhaust has been standard for 30 years in motorcycles.

Given that 'magically' active exhaust all showed up at the same time suggests to me that an OE (eg. Bosch) put a system together and sold it to all who were interested.

For me it’s a useless feature that I wish I could turn off without going the plug simulator route. I never drive mine with the valves closed. First thing I do after starting is open the damn valves. Active exhaust ruins the sound of a cold start.

FYI if you shut down the engine with them open, unplug the valves, problem solved.

You will see a message active exhaust disabled. The car will learn and ignore the feature (no message) .

Did you have the active mufflers from the factory and then swapped them for the Borla's with valves? Or did you just add the Borla system and wanted the valves.
Mine came with the actives from the factory. I just added the active valve catback.

Probably my favorite feature on the Mustang, or close to it. It's a godsend for those of us who work at strange hours and want to maintain good relationships with our neighbors.

Yup that’s active exhaust. IMO 100% worth it. I have the borla atak catback and in the morning I have it start in quiet mode for the neighbors sake lol.

Active exhaust is probably my second favorite option. (Magneride would be number 1) I don't really care about my neighbors, but at times, I just don't want to deal with a loud exhaust, just want some peace and quiet. Other times, I want it as loud as possible, hence the reason I have a Borla ATAK active exhaust sitting in my garage waiting to be installed.

I set mine in quiet mode from 11pm -7am. Set for Sport the rest of the time.

Besides Magnaride it's one of my favorite options. I have heard an 18 with stock AE and headers and it sounds great in track mode. Cold starts were totally acceptable too.

My favorite option. One of the reasons I decided to buy when I did. I considered magneride, but was not on the car I chose.

It seems it is more included in the eco-boost models and as an extra cost option for the 8 cylinder cars

That's not true, the cost is the same as stand-alone option and only is 'standard' in 'Performance Package' versions no matter which engine you choose.
