Hey guys-

2021 Ford mustang GT w 17k miles & active exhaust here. I'm having an active exhaust issue, the valve seems to be making noise when going from QUIET mode to TRACK and vice versa. At first i thought it was it was a rear end or suspension issue when putting car into gear. But finally noticed yesterday that its the exhaust. I also heard it from behind the car while doing auto start, same metallic noise.
What can i do to lubricate the active exhaust valve in mufflers?? I'm thinking car washes and salt from the snowstorms we have had lately got in there causing issues. What are your thoughts.

Thanks Anthony

Might be able to stick your finger in there and pull out any built up gunk in there.

Not sure what to put on your finger though.

I was thinking, maybe a little WD-40 w that metal bendable head to get up in there. But would that damage the electronic valve??
Thanks Ant

You can try Permatex ceramic extreme brake lubricant or a copper spray lubricant.

For the spray, buy long straws and you can route them into the actuators.

Sounds like a good cleaning is probably first order of business.

You would have to be spraying in the wrong places for it to get within the vicinity of any electronics :like:

And there is a nice lip seal on the shaft to help protect them :

You can get to the top of the pivot shaft with a straw through the holes shown above in the mounting plate.

Then looking up the inside from the rear end (and once you see lubricant seeping through from the top), you can hit the top and bottom pivots from the inside :

Note that I can't say this is a fix or that it will help you - I'm just trying to answer your questions from taking pictures and fooling around with mine :like:

Don't worry about hurting the valve. It's a sealed unit. I've had a few noisy ones. If the valve is operating correctly, check the area for rocks, or loose hardware. There are 3 nuts that hold the actuator in place on top of the exhaust tips. You may have to lower the rear part of the exhaust to get to it. Maybe they're loose.

There's also a small chance this spring either broke or came loose, but that would probably send a code saying "Active Exhaust Not Available."

AE is a great invention, but lots of little issues with it over the years. Wiring getting frayed, noise, bad actuators. It's a pretty simple system you just have to go through it.

Thanks Tony!!!!!!! For the reply and pics. I really love my AE, but have no time for stupid noises and non sense w exhaust, ya know.... I prb will get some copper lube and spray it first and see what happens.. then bring it back to dealer before 3/36k ends in march 2024. Let them figure it out!
I have a few things dealer gotta check out for me, i will add this one to the list!
Thanks Anthony

Yes, it is. Warranty ends march 2024. Car is going back before then.
Thanks Anthony
Good luck and please let us know what they discover so those of us out of warranty can add it to our toolbox.
