I have a 2023 Mach 1 with the performance package and the A10 automatic transmission. Just recently, with only 1,970 mile s driven, I have noticed what I can only describe as the transmission 'slipping' when it downshifts from 5th-4th gear and from 2nd-1st gear. I can both feel it and actually hear it happen. Has anyone else with the A10 ever experienced this?

There are lots of threads on the A10 issues if you do a search. I believe there is a TSB from Ford on certian issues.

Get car up on a lift, idle it in Drive to get trans temp up towards 170-180F and check the dipstick, 10R80's and 10R60's are very commonly filled on the lower end, and some have been even lower than Ford's minimum. If your tranny dipstick has the numbers, I think you want the end result to be showing between 4 and 5. I would also do the adaptive learning reset or unplug the battery overnight.

Keep in mind that 10R80's all act quirky at times even with no issues, proper fluid etc. it's just not as seamlessly calibrated as the ZF 8HP.

I predict a transmission recall in the not so distant future. (Probably a lame ass "software update" fix)
Good thing you still got that beautiful warranty covering the car!
Those 10 speed autos have been known to be problematic - although it was mostly the early ones that had the most issues. Kind of surprised it would happen to a 23 model year. You would think they would have sorted it out by now.

I had this issue where it jolted between 4th & 5th on the track. In normal mode it was okay. I got a TSB software update from Ford. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet on a track to see if it was fixed.

The M1 A10s are surely tuned differently. That may be the issue.

What mode are you driving in when you notice the issue. Is it the same in normal versus sport or in track?

I have a 1 year old 22 Mach 1 I bought and currently have 4500 miles approx. car is just driven locally as a boulevard cruiser. I love the S550 gen and was so excited to get the Mach 1 as a limited run model. I came from a 2016 GT Auto, and was looking forward to the faster shifting 10 speed. I am nothing but annoyed and disappointed with the 10 speed. It doesn’t behave like I expect sports car would. Granted upshifts are fast but harsh( totally fine with this) but when breaking or slowing down or coming up to a light, the car does ZERO fun and musical downshifts or engine breaking. I need to get in for service and have it inspected (2nd time) but providing nothing is wrong hoping to get the Steeda M1 tune that a few forum members have mentioned is a must to get the 10 speed working better. And yes mine had the low fluid from factory as well, and I recently experimented with disabling the learn feature. Love Mustang, but the 10 speed kinda ruined the fun and excitement. Shouldn’t be this hard to enjoy this iconic sports car.

Wengerd or P1 Tuners is who you want to fix the A10 issues. My car wasnt bad before. Its amazing now. Though i will say the car is never gonna aggressively downshift on its own just rolling up to a stoplight. You have to be driving it hard, blip the throttle, or at least be going down a good hill for that to happen. And be in sport or track mode. If you want engine braking rolling up to a stoplight, on flat ground, driving calmly you're gonna have to use the paddles.

I wouldn't do that. You are better off holding your foot on the brake and throttle it a bit. Maybe 1500 rpm. If you have the wheels of the ground, the have shaft boots may rub against the shocks. Also they are at extreme angles with the wheels off the ground

I have tracked my 2023 HP A10 5 or 6 times with no issues. It has performed very well, up shifts and down shifts are spot on. I hope it continues.

It adapts to your driving, if you drive slow in S mode, it has no reason to be aggressive. It depends on the amount of braking, if you break more and fast, it downshifts hard especially if you were keeping RPMs higher just before that. I find the downshifts in curves sometimes even too much, 3rd-4th when 5th would be sufficient but it can't know ahead what curve it is or if there is car before me and I won't take it fast etc. You give it sixth sense and hints by the paddles.

Thanks to everyone for the input above. I have an appointment for an oil change next week and will have the A10 trans fluid level checked. The slip and noise I am feeling when the car downshifts from 5th to 4th and then when it goes into first is evident in all three modes of normal, sport+ and track. It does appear to be more prevalent at slower deceleration speeds. I am going to have one of the members of our Mustang club who is a Ford mechanic drive it as well to get his impression of this issue. I will keep you informed.

If you do this, you'll get error codes because the car will see the rears spinning and the fronts not spinning. It will reset itself, but it's not a good idea. If you need to get the trans hot, just take it our for a triple-digit lap or two around the block. ;)
