I replaced mine a few months ago. Wasn't convinced that the Motorcraft Evaporators were the best option so I went with an aftermarket unit. I wanted the Dealer to replace the Evaporator because I REALLY didn't want to do it & I didn't really trust the independent shops to pull that much of the interior apart without damaging things. But the Dealer wouldn't stand behind their work if they installed a non-Motorcraft part. No idea why. They use plenty of non-Motorcraft parts for lots of repairs. So I had to replace the d@#$ thing myself. It's a load of work but with the service manual it's not too impossible. Just lots of work. And the dash is heavy and awkward to man-handle by yourself. Took a few weeks to get it done but I think it was the best solution for me. Time will tell if I made a good or bad choice with the aftermarket Evaporator. I replaced the TXV as well since it sits at the end of the AC Lines on the Evaporator. It's pretty cheap and easy to replace.

ps. I wanted to replace the Heater Core while the Climate module was out of the car but it's not a simple operation to remove the Heater Core. You have to completely disassemble the Climate module including cutting the foam insulation that the dash rests on. I didn't want to cut that foam.

I also replaced the blower motor while I had things apart. It wasn't difficult but the blower motor isn't cheap. But while I had things apart I replaced what I could.

Hope you get yours sorted out.
What evap core did you go with name part number ?,
Thanks in advance.

You should consider replacing the TXV (thermostatic Control Valve) while you're at it. It might be possible to replace the TXV without removing the dash again but it's much easier now that it's a part. The TXV isn't expensive.

Good luck

Similar issues. A/C blows cold passenger side, but warm on drivers side.

$2600 quote from Ford to fix it lol.

Called Customer Service and they said no warranty/assistance available. Might try to call again or do an evac + recharge to see if that holds for a bit.

If you’re getting cold air on one side but not the other, it might not be an evaporator problem. To me it sounds more likely it might be a bad blend door actuator which would show the same symptoms.

My car had the same problem as yours, and it was the blend door actuator. Those are known to go bad on these cars and other Fords. The part is about $30 and it’s doable to replace yourself (search for threads on this). Even having the dealer do it should be a $200-$250 repair.

Beware if you replace the blend door actuator yourself, you might get a bad one new in the box from Ford. That happened to me. The new part I bought from Ford was defective, it took a visit to the dealer to figure that out. It seems Ford quality control is OK with selling people bad parts?

Could be a blend door. Those symptoms also apply to the system when it starts running low on refrigerant followed by no more cold air after a period of time.

Good suggestion. I thought the same originally.

Mine is a single climate control though, not dual climate and I can see the actuator moving when I rotate the temp dial and looking under driver side in-cabin. I didn't take it apart though.

Going to try the battery reset some people have said in other threads.

Was yours moving even when having the issue?

I didn’t check, mostly because I couldn’t operate the heater system while scrunched up under the dash. At $30 the actuator was cheap enough to replace so I started there.

I’m no A/C expert, but I can’t understand how a bad evaporator would produce your symptoms. If it was bad, it seems like it couldn’t blow cold at all on either side?

I am not familiar either, not sure.

Before I discovered that my Evaporator was bad I had problems with condensation on the inside of the windshield. When the freon was completely gone there was oil residue dripping from the trans pan. It looks just like engine oil (Golden color) but it's refergerant oil. If you are having either or both of these symptoms it's likely your Evaporator Core.

FYI.

It's a common enough point of failure that there are quite a few threads. Many report the symptoms I described. Could be because the evaporator core is on the passenger side and/or how the ducting is routed.
If the hvac system otherwise works correctly with the exception of driver/passenger side air not performing the same, it could very well be the blend door actuator. If the symptom is followed by further hvac failure that we are discussing, good chance it's the evap core.

Oh. One other thought. You can get a loaner A/C Manifold set at your local auto parts store. Connect these and check the pressure. If the pressure is OK it's not the Evaporator Core.
