Hello everyone!
I have just under 33k miles in 2 years of ownership now, but I noticed that there has been paint flaking from the inside of the fender right next to the taillight area.
I'll be bringing it to Ford on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone has seen such thing and if people have successfully been able to repair these through warranty.
There's really no way I could have done this since it's chipping from the inside... It really hurts to see this happen in a car that's only about 2 years old...
I hope to hear your responses if anyone's had similar experiences or any suggestions on how I should go about this! Thanks!

I don't understand the picture. Where is that on the car?

Looks like there's a clip that's caused the damage.

This is the rear end of the quarter panel lining the taillight. There's no clip. What you see there is paint thats flaked off but still attached to the panel LOL

This the photo arranged the correct way??

Anyways, that's just something you're going to have to take care of yourself. It's not going to be covered under warranty.

I'd just get a touch up kit and take care of it. It will hardly be noticable.

If there's been no damage to it and it's the factory paint, then absolutely it should be covered under warranty.

That's the correct way it should be arranged. I tried rotating it, but it wouldn't let me do that when I posted. Sorry for that!

I'll probably have to get the touch up paint and just try repairing it myself, but I'll see what the dealer says while I'm there. Bringing it in for something else anyways

Yeah, I don't even know how that area could be damaged by me, I can't even reach in there. Hopefully it would be covered under warranty... But if it's not, I'll just use touch up paint

Interesting to see the crack in the paint towards the fender .......the little light line running next to the chip .

Im no expert but I doubt Ford will warranty that. It appears to be a gap in the alignment of the panels based on your pic. Almost like someone has pried on it with something.

Be persistent….they will deny it most likely at first, ask for the claim to escalated to the next level or call Ford 1-800 number for customer service. You will end up getting it fixed and Ford will pay 60-100%. Be persistent and polite. I would 100% have it fixed in a proper manner. Touch up if it was a new edge maybe.

I'm just including the below for future reference for others asking about paint defects.

Attached is Ford Warrantable vs Non-Warrantable paint guide. The Ford paint is covered under the 5/60 Paint And Corrosion Warranty outlined in your Mustang Owner's Manual. It does not protect against damages such as rock chips or other, only workmanship and corrosion.

Attachments

You will need to ask the Service Center to get very close hi-res pics with good lighting and probably best with the taillight assembly removed (very easy to do this yourself too) when they submit the claim. Otherwise Ford will deny the claim if the pic is poor, because they’ll see it as an impact chip, rather than a manufacturing delaminating issue.

Looks to me as though someone trier to pry out the taillight with a 🪛
