If you think your privacy laws are actually protecting you, you are naive.

They do a better job than the US, why are US companies constantly moaning about them and getting fined?

Actually, it's people who buy these products and continue to support the companies doing this that led us to here. The solution isn't to pull a plug, it's to let products with these features stagnate on the lot unsold.

I see from your profile pic you are supporting these choices just fine, like the rest of us here with modern cars.

In cars it should have started and ended with OnStar 30 years ago if we the people were so upset about it.

People buy what they want including those convenient connected vehicle features.

The cars stagnating on the lot are the ones without these features that people want.

To your point, I don’t plan on buying any new cars, between my now modemless 2018 F150 and my modemless GT500, and my 65 Fastback, I’m set.

Yep, the surveillance state is here. Between the flock cameras, the kill switch and lots of other crap, it’s too much. All under the guise of “safety”.

The technology has been there for some time - how you use it is important.

You would think it’s in our control but it’s not. City councils, local police departments, etc. all sign off and enable this technology without our consent. Under the guise of “public safety”, but when residents speak out about privacy concerns, it is largely dismissed. So, people have taken matters into their own hands and are actively locating these cameras and cutting them down.

They don't necessarily need your consent as an individual

They are in most cases controlled by elected people where the majority decide who will define policy. If enough people decided they didn't want cameras for example then they need to elect different people to define that policy.

However democracy means that some people will not agree with that policy but must abide by it. You don't get to choose which laws you abide and which you ignore as an individual. The fact that I also live in a democratic country and we have different and stronger privacy laws makes it clear that changes can be made.

If you lived in an autocracy then it is very different.

Cutting down cameras is vandalism or some other such offence for which prosecution is clearly possible.

There’s plenty of old cars out there. I still have my 65, been in the family since new.
