Yes, for the track, I will prefer whatever gets my ass around the circuit the fastest. I also prefer the R for what it is too. We talked about your issues and concerns with the 500, but I really don't think you gave it much of a chance. You put what? 10 miles on it?
20 but that was enough.

PS - I spent a bunch more miles shotgun in a track pack car (non CFTP)...it's an animal for sure. I'll just never get past the shifting thing. Like I said, personal preference.

I have driven both and I prefer the GT350 just based on the pure driving experience. GT500 is still an amazing car though.

They are two different cars. I prefer them both, each for their own reason.
I agree with you. You can’t/shouldn’t compare the 2. Like you I am fortunate to have both and can’t pick one over the other.

Yes, lots of folks who don't like the brake dust have sold their new OEM pads for 1/2 price shipped. Thats gravy. Otherwise, I don't think brake pads cost a bunch more than the 350, so no savings there. I never buy tires at full price at tire rack..... I need a new set after a weekend anyway, so no savings there..... Both cars take about a case of oil and use the same filter, again, no savings there..... I have to fill the 350 up after each session, so no savings there..... Where you do save is that I don't have to flush the DCT after each weekend. The service interval is quite extended, its unbelievable..... So overall It should be a little less for the fluids and a little more for the gas. Gas is cheap right now.
To be fair, a lot of this (fuel, brakes, tires, etc.) is directly influenced by driving skill and track. Daytona + COTA are similar in many ways here - after 2-3 days of heavy track use your car will need almost all the consumables replaced regardless of which ones chosen. But at smaller, local tracks - the 500 will STILL need to be refilled after every session, 20in tires are significantly more than used 19in slicks, etc.

That said, I agree with the overall sentiment. At this stage, you're playing with the big boys and both cars cost a lot to run each weekend and there's not a real way to get around the physics.

I would agree that 'faster' does not mean better, or even more enjoyable. Two different machines going about it it in similar, but different ways. Here is recent Daytona outing, which highlights the differences.

Too bad the driver of the 500 did not have the same driver skill as you.

I'd have got frustrated and backed off 5 seconds.

King of the Mustangs. M8 Comp is also AWD. Doubtful the M8 Comp could hang with the CFTP on a track.

The OP was comparing 2 Mustangs, not the CFTP and 'anything'.

Can you clarify, King of what? I just watched an Edmunds.com video showcasing how the BMW M8 competition toasted the 500 at the drag strip. The 500 barely bested the M on the 40mph roll-on. So, it didn’t King that matchup.

It apparently is also the king of consumables. But, I digress.

The difference is that you are good, you know the course, and drove the correct line. The other guy didn't.

I would chalk your video up to a difference between drivers, not cars.

He should have let Patrick have the inside course. Its what drivers do when they consistently see the same guy on their asses all the time, they let them by. Patrick would beat him fair and square into and exiting a turn. Then the 500 would step on it and power out of it.

It's frustrating. I've had it happen to me a few times. Other car has way more power and the driver cannot corner and is inconsiderate.

holy coasting batman. Brochacho in the 500 needs a lesson in humility. When someone makes up a gap that big in one braking zone, you need to get out of the way (to put it very, very nicely).

Was it Lee Iacocca who said "lead, follow, or get out of the way"?

One other thing to consider is that the 350 goes through about 10 gallons in a 30 minute session at Daytona, while I believe the 500 is not really able to complete a full 30 minute session. It's one thirsty beast.

Those 500s were not able to finish their sessions?

I know a few were hitting fuel starve here at COTA at the end of 25 min sessions
