In a recent press event, TFL (The Fast Lane) had a Ford rep tell them that the power numbers of the 2020 GT500 are at the wheel, and the engine is making around 850. I've also found a few news stories online also seem to indicate that the numbers are wheel, not crank. Have I just been blind or has anyone just noticed this? Can anyone find any other clarifications?

I think they are talking about the gross horse power before you factor in parasitic losses from the super charger.

I wasn't sure how he worded it. I was watching with the captions on and no audio. I know it takes so much HP to run a supercharger, but not sure which number they are referring to as actual HP.

I was told that in the development phase, the engine was putting out over 800. I'm not surprised it is under 800 for public consumption. You have to be able to warranty it and stand behind it.

A few things:

1) The engine is underrated at its currently quoted rating.

2) We won't be seeing 760 at the wheels. The guy was saying power at the source - that is not saying crank. that is saying what the combustion is producing.

3) Another reason to have gone TT - minimized parasitic losses.

So 760 is the power at the crank after the SC has had it's feast?
That sounds right and is consistent with what the guy on the video was saying.

The whole point of the "850 hp gross" statement was to brag about the cooling.

They are saying that they are cooling 850 hp, though you net "only" 760 hp at the crank after parasitic losses.

Some of the Youtube guys are getting everyone over excited only to let them down. Not cool.

That said, I don't doubt a KR version or whatever is going to be 800+.

That would make sense. He kind of said that it makes about 850 hp but the SC needs 85 or so. So that would make in the 760 range.

GT500 supercharger takes about 100hp.

That's how I understood it. SC parasitic losses.
I've been into cars for a long time and I've never heard anyone quote a horsepower figure based on the losses to a supercharger...because it DOESN"T MATTER and WHO would care??because it's not like you can go without the blower, lol! Some claims have been made as to efficiency of a power adder assisting in that final number, but that's much different.
