have seen videos of races between new gt mustangs. the 10 speed beats the 6 speed from a standing start, ok, but from a roll at 30 mph the 10 sp easily pulls away from the 6 sp, why, did ford take some hp from the 6 sp.

modern automatics are not the "slush boxes" from years past. they are pretty efficient at transmitting the power from the engine to the wheels. Plus, the 10 speed allows for much smaller rpm drops between gears. and on top ot it all, the auto shifts as fast as anyone smashing gears in the manual trans.

The gearing in a 10 speed allows the vehicle to stay in the powerband when the car upshifts.

RPM in the 6 speed drops a lot more during uplifting, meaning the engine now has to rev UP TO the powerband again.

They both make the same engine hp. The manual will make more wheel hp.

The new 10 speed automatic is a very good transition. It shifts really fast and keeps the engine in the peak power band.

Ford didn't remove hp from the 6 speed, the 10 speed just has better gearing because of the 10 gears and it shifts so fast that it makes up for the hp loss and beats the 6 speed

I would venture to say that number is pretty close nowadays. Modern autos don't lose as much through them with the ability to lock the converter at WOT (which was one of the main reasons for the loss of power).

Closer but the statement should still hold true and be a measurable difference if you put a stock 10 speed on a dyno vs a stock 6 speed

They didn't, the 10 speed auto just shifts faster and at peak rpm. While the 6 speed takes longer to shift and drops more rpm wasting time.

Sorry but autos being faster than manuals have been the case for at least a couple decades.

I just bought a new S650 this week with the 10 speed auto, variable exhaust, and Brembo brakes. It replaced my stock 2008 Shelby GT500. Although it was a Shelby, my new GT is just so much better and I honestly believe it would outrun the Shelby!!
The transmission is unbelievable. Using the paddle shifters the transmission has no problem snapping your neck.

Auto. No dip in shifting to next gear since power stays on longer, 4 more gears so rpm range stays pretty constant and higher, banging through gears WOT.

Autos have come a long way in the last ten years. And manuals, well…. they’ve kinda gotten worse since then. Not all but most.

I remember having that conversation with my father in the mid '70's. He contended that automatics were faster than manuals. Being a teenager I argued against it. Now I really can't say if '70's automatic technology was faster or not, you certainly wouldn't have convinced me it was then. But it's pretty undeniably true now.

It was. There was only 1 or 2 people who could shift faster than 1960's auto's. Ronnie Sox was one of them.

As others have said, the A10 stays in the powerband continuously. You purchase the manual for the fun factor.

Honestly these cars are too fast as it is, the a10 makes it even worse lol. Floor it for 2 seconds and you're 20+ over.

Not even flooring it (unless you’re on the highway). 1/2 throttle and I’m flying before I even realize it around town. These cars want to get to 60 in a hurry.

It would be interesting to see if the gap is closed between an A10 and a 6 speed manual with No Lift Shifting (taking the clutch out of the equation during shifts).

The A10 still keeps the RPM in the power band the M6 drops below peak
