First, I don’t want to start a war or blast a company. Second, I don’t sell anything, I just want to share my experience.

So, I have a 2015 Mustang GT Premium auto, with 3.15 gear. My modification is: JLT CAI, custom tune, Roush AB and MT ET street II 265/40R18. My best time is 11.84@118 on really good condition (-500DA).
I read a lot of threads on the CAI: IAT vs stock, gain on dyno but nothing concrete on the ¼.
So Yesterday I made some test at the track. I do 3 run in the morning with the JLT: [email protected] (1.800 60’), [email protected] and [email protected] (the DA was between 200 and 600). At the lunch break, I change the JLT for the stock air box (with the stock filter) and put the same tune except the parameter change for the stock air box and do 3 run. At this time, the DA was between 800 and 900. On the first run I do [email protected]. My second run was [email protected] (1.799 60’), and finally [email protected] with a bad 60’ (1.829). For reference, my friend with is 2013 GT run [email protected] in the morning, run [email protected]. at the end of the day.
Conclusion, the JLT look and sound good under the hood, but for my setup it give me nothing in performance at the strip (the result must be different with other setup). In fact, I run better with my stock air box with stock filter. My next move; I order a afe filter last night and if someone is interested, my JLT is for sale J

Doesn't surprise me at all. Too many what's the best CAI threads when the one from the factory is as good as any of the aftermarket crap out there. Same thing as in previous years.

I have the afe filter but don't use it. Svt perf did dyno analysis on the filter for the 5.0 and found out it actually hurt the numbers. For some reason, stock filter with the stock airbox gave the best results.

I switched my air filter couple of times and felt a lag with the afe filter. The car was stuttering under acceleration. I don't know why. Put back the paper filter its gone, the car runs smoother. For the record all of the times i switched to afe or stock i disconnected the battery for about half an hour or more.

Good luck. Let us know what happens and thanks for the info.

Woooow! About a month or so from purchasing a CAI and tune...now I'm re-thinking which CAI to go with (if any).

Thanks for doing the testing and sharing your info.

That 11.84@118mph in -500 DA is crazy fast for your mods. Would love to run in that DA one time.

I am really curious how the PMAS CAI would perform in your test.

The JLT will make more power, not necessarily due to the open filter element or tube design, but because the MAF area is larger which is what causes you to need a tune. A drastic change in MAF air speed due to larger diameter requires an air/fuel tune calibration to optimize it. Whether or not you get any more 1/4 speed for that extra 8 hp is unlikely.

Are you referring to the K&N drop in filter test they did a while back?

Thank you for the test ... Nice to back up what I saw with my JLT Vs my stock air box... The tune was where the extra power comes from and not so much the intake ..I still have my JLT on and think I will just leave it on seeing that they run pretty much the same numbers .. The CAIs are like the Long tube headers, they make pretty sounds but don't really make a bunch of difference ..

Yup. Not just K&N, they tested Afe and Green filter too if i m not mistaken. I can retry switching to afe again and see what happens. My mpg did go up with the afe on cruise setting though.

So far my only mods are Borla Touring catback and JMS Pedal max. I would totally recommend the pedal max to everyone. It makes a huge difference and before i got it i called it BS but, it turned out to be a pretty sweet setup. You won't regret it!

Running in negative DA is nuts. Very first time I ever ran the 1/4 mile was in -600DA and I got a 12.19 on an almost stock 2011 5.0(and bone stock driver mod too!).
