I was recently at the dealer for an oil change and inquired about getting the transmission serviced. They quoted me $695 to drop the pan and change the fluid, filter and gasket @ 2 hours labor and $300 to flush. Theres a performance shop not far from me that does my alignments, so I'll get a quote from too.

I know where is the best dealer service around. Friends with the manager. He claims he has on staff the best A10 tech in the Midwest and I believe him. I've already met him.

See if you can somehow find out which truly is the best dealer service. Take your car there because you can also request all the latest TSBs get implemented.

That's my plan right before hibernation.

Ray skillman? I’ve heard positive things about them saying they’re good with the a10, but no real evidence to support it. Just a guy boasting mostly so far.

I dropped the pan at about 30K miles and changed the filter and any fluid that came out, around 7 quarts if I remember correctly. At abut 50K I did a drain and refill, about another 6 or 7 quarts. I don't trust dealers but at least you know they will put in the correct fluid. Before I changed it myself I went to the dealer, where I bought the car, and asked how much for a new filter and refill of the fluid that came out. The service advisor said they do not do filter changes, only flushes. When I told him a filter change was not that much work he told me that sounded pretty knowledgeable and should do it myself, which I did. If you find somewhere other than the dealer that will do it I recommend buying a filter and the fluid from a Ford dealer and supplying it to the shop you go to. The price you were quoted by the dealer sound high to me. Were they going to do a complete flush in addition to the filter change or just replace what was in the pan. I believe you have an older version of the 10R80 which does not have the upgrades that were released in August of 2022. Because the early 10R80 have some mechanical issues I believe it is important to put some fresh fluid in them ever 30K miles at most. To rebuild a 10R80 is going to cost around $7K so don't beat too hard on the pre 2022 models and keep fresh fluid in them.

Yep that's the place, and maybe it was me talking them up. We take both our Fords there, a 40 mile trip.

Eric Cayton is the service department manager. A Car Guy's Car Guy. He personally changed my tires for me once. Matched online price for GT350 brake upgrade. Lent me his Catalyst. A real prince.

He drives in the Trans Am series and I hung out with his team a couple weeks ago at IMS.
But he ignored my driving tip between turns 2 and 3. Hey, it was the line polesetter Matt Brabham was taking!

I do my own. Here is the process. I remove the fill level stick and record the fill reading. Then drain, remove the trans pan, remove and replaced the filter. Then install the old or in my case a PPE Alum pan with a drain plug ( And I installed a temp sensor into the provided port due to the fact that I have a aftermarket trans temp gauge) Transfer the old fluid into a container that can be used to measure the amount that came out. Measure the amount of fluid you removed and refilled the amount of fluid that was removed with new fluid using a 12 volt transfer pump from Amazon. Start the car and put it in drive and then rev. Then recheck the fluid and adjust the amount of fluid with what was removed. reinstall the level stick and drive the car til the trans gets to about 150 deg. recheck the fluid while the trans is still hot and adjust to the correct level. This is what I do and I feel it works pretty good. After this first fluid change I now just do a drain and refill. And best of all NO DEALERSHIP!!!

I have 47,000 on my Mustang. The transmission shifts flawlessly. Should I take a “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it attitude”? Do a drain and fill with a new filter , or a complete flush and fill? I have a dealership that I trust implicitly. I know there is a lot of experience here.

WTF? These prices are so high. My 2 transmission fluid changes. NOT FLUSHES. Have been below 300$ and I used ford points I get to keep it below 200$.

How far off is the gauge you installed vs the gauge that's on the dash? Just curious.
