Not a day has gone by in my 2015 GT where I have complained about MFT. SYNC 3 seems like a nice update, but marginal, at best, compared to the 2015 MFT.

Sync 3 will become a bigger jump over MyFord Touch when Apple Car Play and Android Auto support is released. Until then its just a speed improvement over the existing system.

I remember Ford Promising Apps when MFT launched and future expandability....

I remember when Chevy put out Mylink after MFT promising apps and future expandability.....

Guess what never happened.

Don't expect them to "upgrade" existing sync 3. They need a reason for you to buy another mustang

I agree I remember a lot of promised for MFT too. Remember that Ford is very publicly fighting to NOT let Apple/Android connections into Sync 3 still.

I also agree with a previous post that I dont play with the screen enough that it makes a difference to me. I change the radio station with steering wheel controls and use the voice commands for dialing the phone etc. There are aftermarket solutions for Apple/Android mirroring already for $300-400 (Lockpick for one).

I wouldn't let Sync 3 influence my decision honestly.

This is exactly why I wanted to avoid MFT with my mustang. I had it previously in a Focus but with the over promising and under delivering of updates and features and no aftermarket upgrade path away from MFT I knew I wanted nothing to do with it this time.

Why? Why is this a sticking point?
They have said they are against it, probably since it takes away to factory interface features, but one of the Ford Service people on this board said they are working on getting Apple Carplay and Android Auto working with SYNC 3.

How bout adding Play Station and some Gaming Apps too while your at it? I got an idea, how about just "hanging up" and simply enjoy driving your damn Vehicle! Just saying...

You realize this is just more than phone features? Like being able to use Google Maps through the vehicle's touch screen? Instead of paying $800 for NAV that you have to pay to update each year, you get a NAV program that regularly updates for free.

And PlayStation is one word ;)

Thanks for the Tip! I have a $75 Garmin Nuvi (portable) GPS with Lifetime Map updates at no extra charge that works fine. Am I missing something? It also has both Canada and Caribbean Maps included as well along with USA.

To me it looks like they're working on not adding it, everybody else has it for a while now. Eventually they will have to, just because they will be losing out to competition...

How is using a Garmin any less unplugged than having the ability to use features from your phone through the car's stereo? Either way your plugging away and looking at a screen. I am against people texting and driving but not against technology progressing to allow better integrations that can help safety or provide more features. Have you ever even seen the Android Auto interface? They make it so it's not distracting, you aren't playing Angry Birds with your car's screen.

I have a TomTom with traffic and free map updates for life. I never use it anymore. Google Maps is much faster since it's using my phone's updated hardware. It's more detailed and more accurate. It tells me which lane to be in for upcoming interchanges or turns, re-routes with no lag when there are detours or I miss a turn, and better traffic alerts with their incorporation of Waze data.

Woah there, where did you see free map updates anywhere? I've never seen that mentioned. May be reading too much into it. They can update the Sync software/OS but where is the info they will updates the maps for free? It costs them money from who they buy licences/updates from.

I wouldn't count on free OTA updates. They didn't on Sync 2 and all that cost was a $5 SD card really difference from Sync 3; or could've given then free to customers on a $30k+ car, but they didn't intentionally. I wouldn't count on free map updates; OS updates for the system yes.

And again, Lockpick can do smartphone mirroring for Sync 2 just fine; has for years for $300-400.

I was talking about Google Maps not the in-car NAV from Ford. A benefit with Google Maps is that it's free updates, you don't get that from the NAV from Ford.

As one who has owned all three major GPS manufacture Models, Magellan, Tom Tom and Garmin, IMO, Garmin is by far the best and most accurate (regardless) of price point!
