Plus most dealers will still ask for a ADM on that

Actually Ive been offered an M4 for $500 over invoice and that is in LA.

Oof, that depreciation on the M4 though.

If I can't get a 350 and I get a strong enough itch to replace the Boss, I've been struggling to consider what's next. Besides Mustangs, I have had a number of Audis including 2007 S4 and RS4s. But with Audi's ascension in the sales rankings, their prices have gone up and manual models have all but disappeared. They just don't excite me anymore.

Going to a BMW seems almost as sacraligious to me as going to a C7 Corvette, but undeniably the M4 and C7 are both great cars so there's lots of potential draw there.

I currently have an 07 RS4. I like it but will be giving it up for the 350. It's pretty quick but you can definitely feel the weight of the car and Quattro as it does all it can with only 300ish tq.

Good problems to have indeed...

At the end of the day, even if you don't get any one of these new high performance cars.... you still have a nice fine set of rides.

It will be interesting to see what the depreciation is on a 55-65k Mustang vs. an M3/4 over the next year or two. I bet the difference wouldn't be enough to warrant a change in purchase decision or regret based on that depreciation.

I guess the true value car is a GT PP at @35k.

And that's why I bought one. On public roads it's capable of far more than anyone can get away with.

Would I like a 350? You bet. I'm fairly confident I'll have one eventually, but I'll wait until I see how they fare for reliability and such, not to mention waiting for the buzz to die down. And then I'll start looking for the one I would have ordered, that someone else bought and left in the garage all shined up for me. ;)

In the near term, the GT350 is going to hold value insanely well, particularly if supply:demand ratio holds the same. Just using the Boss as an example, paid $45k for it and I think a reasonable resale on it is $35k after 3 years; that's 77% residual.

When whatever latest and greatest Mustang comes out after the GT350, then you'll see them start to dive pretty substantially. I think one of the things that has keep Boss values in good shape is that the GT350 is at a higher price point but I really expected them to nose dive once these start hitting the streets. I modify that now to be: once people can actually buy GT350s used. :)

Against an M car, eh, I don't know. There certainly are going to be more M3/M4s than GT350s. I just know historically German cars fall off a cliff after warranty expiration when the inevitable expensive maintenance and repairs start.

All good points. I suspect, just a little bit, that the higher base price will cause an initial drop, then they will hold better than average, for a while. As you said, this is after the first months of not being able to find one at all wear off.

First off, any audi RS model will come in at least 5-8k higher than its comparative M car,and likely still lag in performance. So I don't really consider that real competition.

While the M3/M4 comparison is a given, still a very different dynamic, especially now that BMW has gone full turbo with their M division. Really just not my cup of tea, would have been nicer to see a 4.5L NA V8 or something along those lines

Both of these germans will also be a $$ to maintain and depreciate significantly more than the GT350 and even more so the GT350R

Basically no other car can be had with a 100 hp/L NA V8 at this point, sans a Ferrari with a 200k+ point of entry(even that is going away with the 488 on the way). So for 50-60k, it is an expensive mustang, but it also also extremely unique in terms of what you get and ford has come a long way in the last decade in terms of delivering a complete package.
I had a custom ordered F80 M3. It was very fast, handled really good but was buzzy and uncomfortable. Not nice to drive far and i got bored with it in less than a year. The GT350 is a car you buy and keep. Its iconic and just way more cool. The M3 was disappointing to me. I liked my X5M and GSF better actually. Nobody noticed the M3 at all or knew it was a special car. It sounded like crap and just not what i thought it would be. It has lost its mechanical feel. Its just not a nice car to live with. The GSF....yeah that was epic. I miss that car. NA V8 and very mechanical/analog feel to it while being way more comfortable and nicer to drive than the M3.
